Because TeamNF didn't bother to do this themselves, I will do it for them.

Avatar Guidelines.

Avatars should be 76 pixels wide by 72 pixels tall. They need to be in .gif or .jpg format, animated gifs seem to be disabled. Maximum size allowed is 100 kB. If your picture is too large, it won't be allowed. If your image comes out with the colors all messed it, it is probably being auto-compressed. To improve the quality of your image, make sure that the image you upload is already the proper dimensions and size, so that it doesn't get messed with.

This guide will be amended with more accurate information as it is obtained.

I would also like to point out that 100kB is extremely generous considering the dimensions of the avatars. My avatar for example, is only 4 kB.

You will get a cleaner picture if you re-size it yourself using a competent program.

The pics can be any size, as long as it's under 100kb, because the pic will be automatically shrunk.

Well, that seems to be a recent change. I will amend my guide.

I had a picture of one of my shipmodels and tried to upload it as avatar, but message came up saying that over 100kb is not allowed. My current av is 53kb, and is a jpg.

Halfthere, was your picture a jpg or a gif? I have tried jpgs that are 30 kB and have them denied, so I am pretty sure that 100 kB jpgs are not allowed.

Anything up to 100 Kb is allowed. I think it just reduces size to 64X64, or thereabouts. You'll see that my avatar has been shrunk, especially horizontally.

Yeah, they do. If you want a higher quality image, it is best to do the resizing and compression yourself. The auto-compression algorithms leave something to be desired.

My sig is originally 96 by 96, so i guess they do automatically fix the size.
