  • Brooklyn Loadouts for new players

I have been playing brookyln for quite some time and here are some recommened loadouts.

FCS
Since you will be gunning alot. use Aiming FCS..

Scout Plane
This is something you shouldn't save weight on. U can't shoot what u can't see. Scout planes are useful for spotting enemy ship. Knowing the moves of your opponents in important if u want to do well in NF... I allows u to identify threats earlier.. (fast incomming Fubu class DD's).. It also allows you to identify easy targets like the careless M-project class that wasn't paying attention to u and let you slip into gun range...

Engine
You have have choice of DD3 engine or CL engine. DD3 has less overheat time and also less max overheat speed. The difference is around a couple of seconds. However, CL engine weights at least 300 Tons more. So the choice is yours. I my opinion. The 300 Tons is better spent on armor.

Guns.
There are 3 types of guns u can use on brookyln. Double 5" 54 , Triple 6"/47, Double
6" 47DP , Double 8"...

Double 5"54 is only useful if you are really good at High Angle shots but I will not recommend it.

Double 6"47DP will only give you 10 guns.. Thats no good. May as well use a DDX.

Double 8" is powerful. Its has the longest range and also the slowest reload time. Don't miss. This weapon works best against' enemy CL's and CA. However, Low level players should avoid it as you will not have the accuracy to use these. Also, you will only have 40 Shots per gun which isn't alot.

Triple 6"47 is the standard brookyln configration. With the L version of the gun. You will have fairly decent range and repectable rate of fire. (3.6 seconds). You can carry 83 rounds per gun which is enough. I recommened using the L version of the gun as it offers the best range. Also, its very very unlikely u will run out with 5 binds....

Ammo
The following are the recommened ammo options.
8" .. HE Light.
5" .. APC
6" .. Well, you have a choice. HE-Heavy works best on DD's and other poorly armored targets. It will do around 250 damage at long range and up to 350 at up close. (but its typically a very serious mistake to let a DD up so close especially when u are in a brooklyn).
HE-Light is the choice of players wanting range for shooting CLs... You will have max range but your spread won't be the best.. Works poorly on DD's...
HE-Normal is a the choice that balances damage and range. I normally just carry 1250 rounds He-Normal
AP. Well, I don't recommened using AP. Too little damage.

T mounts, what do u do with those.
AA guns. You have the option of putting 5"25 AA guns. But with 8 guns only, you won't be shooting too many planes down. I recommend players not bother with it.
Torps. The brookyln can mount 8 qunituple torp tubes... 20 torp broad sides. However, u have to note two things.....1: U have to be damn close to use torps. 2: 8 torp launchers + torp weight a good 1000 tons. u pay the price in armor.
My opinion on torps on brooklyn is. If u let mange to get your target into effective torp range. .u may as well broad side him with 15 x 6" guns....

Armor. The brooklyn can pack some armor. but not that much. here are some common schemes.

All Belt.. Mount 5.5" + of belt armor. this is the most costly option. (offer max protection in broad sides. best vs DD's or in operation convoy, offer good protection agasint' CL weapons at medium ranges)
Belt + Bulge... mount 4.5" of belt + 30 bulge. (good protection, some torp protection, best used in DD heavy enviroments)
Belt + Bulge + Deck. mount 3" of belt, 10 bulge, 1" of deck. (General purpose layout, its a balance between all options.)
Light belt + bulge + heavy deck.. Mount 1" of belt, 10 bulge, and 2" of deck. (This layout is optimized against CL heavy enviroments. The deck armor will offer some protection against CL weapons at medium to long ranges. however, don't let that Z99 or DDX get too close...)

Very good info. I did not even think about the torps and the weight.

Mixed layout of 3 HE-Heavy + 2 HE-Light has its advantages, but i guess it up to the player. At least for me.(may be coz i suck at NF) I find going straight HE-Normal is a better choice for 2 reasons.

1. With 83 rounds per gun. u are unlikely to run out of ammo of a specific type of ammo.
2. HE-Normal is aruguably more accucrate then HE-Light and has longer range than HE-Heavy.
3. Since u won't change ammo type, there is no need to range the guns.... I sometime find it tricky to have shoot at a HE-light salvo at fast incomming target (read torp whore DD)......swtich ammo, adjust elevation for ammo, adjust elevation for range decrease, then fire an HE-Heavy Salvo. ... unless you get are very good at judging and get it right.. Your first HE-Heavy Salvo will probaly miss..

"8" duels give u 2 binds of 40 so its 80 shots a gun "

8" dual...that means two guns per turret.

2 binds x 40 rounds/bind = 80 rounds / 2 round/shot = 40 shots.

i used 6"/47 triples with 3 binds heavy, 2 binds light for when something's just hanging at the edge of range.

don't play CL/CA without 8".

if youre gunna use the 8s make sure that:

Youve got someone around to help you out with the close range people
Youve got good gunners (10 lvls higher than the 8s)
