CV and SS are completely different game styles from what you have played sofar and I'll give a brief description of each.
CV play ------------ CV games usually last long (10-15 mins) since CV's are among the last ships to die. As you start with the Oyodo at lvl 38 you can only use torpedo-bombers, at lvl 40 you can have fighters and at lvl 45 you can start dive-bombing. From then on gameplay stays the same as you get more and better pilots & planes. CV play is very intensive as you are managing your ship plus 1-8 squadrons at the same time. CV's generally earn a lot of credits, which is a nice benefit.
SS play ----------- SS games usually last 1-5 minutes. SS' are slow ships and your first challenge is to make it to the enemy ships with a some air to spare. 50% of the time your Vickers SS1 won't live long enough to see an enemy ship. If you can reach the enemy fleet it is very gratifying to sink a couple of BB's and CV's and hear them curse you. I regularly score over 100K attack with my Kaidai SS3. However they don't make nearly as much money (credits) as CV's.
If this is your first BO, I would NOT go the SS route. Once you are in an SS, there is no variety in your gameplay and you are probably going to grab your old Simakaze just to play something different.
Whatever your choice, start training your crew NOW. For CV play, start training torpedo bomber, dive bomber and fighter pilot, so you have them when you are at the right level. I regularly see Oyodo's with only scouts and they are usually kicked out of the room. If you do want to go the SS route, start training a planesman and a sonarman.
