I might add, used with twin 14" at higher level - same applies. Anything you could sink easily with those guns has too small of a hitbox to sink at range. Anything with a big hitbox that you landed a shell or two on would then give you attention which you probably didn't want (i.e. "eating BB shells")
@Michaelius - I agree, MogCA in AAW mode is a credit and experts machine. It is really hard to shoot down anything other than scouts with only 8 x 4.7" bullets.
The only really good use I found for Asama, which is not at all profitable from any perspective but is mildly fun, is to rig it as an ASW-vengeance ship.
Setup: hh on the tslots no r-slot guns auto-aiming load the ship up with your entire BB support crew putting that restorer which you mistakenly leveled up as the BO and your level 100 bve gunners manning the HH
Now you have 900SD and HH which reload in under 30 seconds, bags of OH time and speed and quick repair.
Hopefully you have a sonar man which you can then put on a dd to take as an escort.
Go to battle and sink all SS4 and ss3 and any other ss. Since you will not earn many credits or xp, you are doing this for fun, you are doing this because some sub pissed you off in the last game.
So in 3 minutes all SS are sunk. Now you have to decide whether you want to skulk around and look for prey or do a kamikaze run on some unsuspecting BB who can't aim well.
That is the only good use I've yet found for the Asama.
