With the over-powered subs out there I was thinking of outfitting a K-berg for ASW
duty. Give 3 HH launchers 2 DP racks. Why a CL instead of a Z99? Mainly because
the weight saved on HH instead of guns could be used to up the bulge significantly
and its greater damage points. Just an idea I was toying with.

Any thoughts?

Pros:

-fast, can use HH or gun/DC (its fast enough for it, then gun the sub that surface to
avoid DC)
-slim. Against anything else than KM subs its worth a lot.

Cons

-Needs a sonarman to spot subs. Unless you are leveling a sub crew, it means sacrifying a
levelin spot to a sailor you won't use on your BB/CV
-Still bigger of a target than a DD

Can it ASW? definitely.

Would it be my first choice for it? No.

also bout the tatsuda comment: sima and fubu are better choice than that wannabe kuma
piece of crap.

Why KBerg and not D40? KBerg is twice as long which is REALLY helpful against subs

Really DD's are designed for ASW duty that's why their useful. And they do their job well,
With the Z99's turning ability and speed it's easy to get onto the side of a sub and drop
some DC's since I prefer them over HH's. The biggest problem I run into is wandering into
the Enemy BB's range as I hunt and get 4-5 full salvo's from them all around me.

Really, the biggest problem with any suitable ASW platform is the weight limitations. If
you have an even remotely high level crew, you will run into major issues. I can barely
get a BO and two gunners on a z99 let alone secondary weapons or a sonar man or
engies...

It's been suggested and requested many a time for their to be a new high level ASW
ship for each nation, basically the same idea as the ECLs which are non BO tree bound
national AA platforms, but have them be higher level, higher displacement DDs. This will
also help sort out the pathetic XP high level players get in DDs.

Now, that all being said, if you're playing at level in these ships I'd stick with the Z99
personally. It's speed and turning force will help make your job much easier. The k-
berg is really meant to be a gunship, hence the high space R slots. It can be an
effective ASW platform if played right, but personally I'd stick with the Z99.

I think the most effective defense an ASW ship has is its speed and maneuverability. I'd
suggest going for ships that have a good evasiveness, rather than just bulging.

The Emden is pretty fast [can't recall the kberg's speed when underloaded], with the same
turning force as a z99. But the z99 has the better DD sonar ability. The Emden definitely
has more HHs to play with in a single salvo.

I'd say compare the performance of the Emden, z99, and kberg for your needs. Maybe the
bulge will suit your play style. But those sub torpedoes are pretty vicious.
