The distance you fire (as well as damage) is controlled by the guns on your ship, not your
BO. Your BO affects the distance of your guidelines and the ability to spot your shells
landing. The FCS you use affects the accuracy of your guns, and allows for precise firing
(assuming you're using manual).

As many have mentioned, a scout is your best option for seeing the enemy. If you don't
carry one, you must rely on your team to scout for you (never a good idea).

I highly doubt BOs let you fire further. They are only able to mark your shells to a
certain distance depending on your BO lvl. That and of course your firing line length and
sight range but very little.

The greatest sight improvement you can get is scouts. That's about it. If you don't have
scouts, then I'm afraid you will need to rely on your team mates to get a good look on
your enemy. But then again, don't rush blindly unless you know you can get out of
there alive, or if you don't plan to.

Use a scout plane

your bo lets you fire further but scouts are the way to go to see more. and yes bbs
will fire half way across the map just dont get in range...use blitz to hone your skills.

gb2 is good for anti sub/aa warfare when you are lower lvls

and even then DONT rush

FCS and BO ability, both which come with time. As for the BBs might I suggest Blitz?
