  • HH's vs SS1, am I doing something wrong?

Hi there
I recently aquired my Vickers L3, while it's slow and I rarely get to attack anything
beyond a dd, and it's going to be a grind to ss2, I've found it so fun over the past 2
levels. But I always see subs getting HH'd and it does very little damage, underwater or
above, yet when I get HH'd by a DD, i get hit by one or two and I'm cracked open like a
tin can in a rubbish compactor.
My current crew is as such
lvl 39 BO +15 operating
lvl 57 Heavy torp man +26 (do also have a special at lvl 61 now +29 but i'm training the
other one up to the same level first. it annoys me that you can only use 1 torp man...)
lvl 37 sonarman +15 sonar
lvl 37 planesman +20 air supply (boosted)
lvl 34 +22 engy
lvl 40 +22 engy

So is there some kind of tactic to not getting damaged by HHs? like .1 belt or something?

the thing is the last sub path seriously nerfed low level subs and buffed high level subs.

so you with your low level crew take extra damage, while high level ss have SD and reps to
negate most damage :)

I think the use of HH is sorta odd of WW2 more depth charges were used However
game version is a waste of time. And the HH here are nothing like the real
ones ..there were spread out in a line rather then bunched up like here

I made suggestions about SS inprovements along time ago even offered to do audio
sound files for NF

Have sonar make pings for CL CA BB CV The faster the SS the louder the ping If
your engine on ANY ship is at redlined, You can not hear your sonar till its under
redline.

HH will have more time delay +1 sec till exploding Depth charges will be a B AMMO
slot with HH and will explode at deep dive levels

SS2 - 3 - 4 Will have False kill button shooting out debree looking like it was sunk
but will lose 1000dp for exrta parts or air time

SS-3 -4 Have 1 extra slot for ether repair or restore ..however if you use repair your
restore is every slow or vise virsa

Sitting subs ..or waiting subs will be picked up faint on sonar screens ..no audio by
planes and slow moving ships under 20 knots

Now i know it's never going to happen ..it would be a programming nightmare
However it would be nice to see

From what i have seen Everything go's into BB classes From a bussiness view you
would want 90% of your customers happy ..10% no matter what you do there not
happy ..but you have alot of players that play CV and SS and get nailed from the
other side of the map and not even see what hit them Might be a reason why
everyone one go's to BB class ..which kills a game in time.1 ship type Everyone a BB
shooting in one big mess gets boring after time. I have a BB CV and 2 SS and
CL have bought into boosting for my BB ..but think its a waste of money to boost or
get experts or vets when a BB's shells are just going to swallow my money up
without a chance to fight back

Only reason for them living is SD. My SS4 has 606SD and can take 4 full HH salvo's from
normal HH before i have to worry, I can't take any PHH though because its more powerful.
When you reach SS3 you want AT LEAST 500-700sd and SS4 900SD because you are IJN. Mine is
KM so i'm not so lucky :(

Try running your SS crew on DDs and CLs playing ASW till they get to SS2-3 level.

DCs can be avoided by crit diving, their primer is slower than the amount of time it takes
to reach crit dive level. About HHs - IF and only IF you perceive the instant the enemy
ship fires them at you from a rather far distance and you immediately hammer "I", you might
have a chance. Else, they're faster than your sub reaching crit dive level. So it might be
smarter to surface cause you will receive the impact dmg but the second detonation will
not affect you as much as it would do when you're below sea surface.

I do try to crash dive but it always seems far too slow... Is there a way to change that?

High level subs can withstand very much damage due to high SD and submergence...
They can even survive torps (even their own) and sometimes DCs without much damage.
When you get shot with HHs you must react instantly... surface (you get HH damage from
impact) or crash dive to avoid... but you must react before the shells hit the water.

Realize there are different kinds of HH. Normal HH which, if placed solidly over SS1,
should do quite a bit of damage if not destroy it, but takes more than a few of
normal HH to destroy top tier (SS4) SS, especially the 120 SS drivers. And then
there's premium HH. Prem HH scattered anywhere near a 120 SS4 will destroy him in
one shot. Pray you don't meet someone like me that hates subs so much he buys
prem HH ;)
