Well to know a good start you must think what sailors do you want to have in the cv6? For example if you are going to be strictly a FW then you dont need to train any bomber pilots.
As for me, the setup I want in my cv6 is 5 fighters, 2 torpedo bombers, 2 dive bombers. That takes care of the support slots and for on board the cv a seaman and a medic. Yes a medic even though with the cv patch you dont lose vets anymore but he still cuts down on the expert deaths, and they cost money too! Japan dont have medics themselves so you either have to buy one or start a KM line to level 25 to get your own. The seaman gives a buff to all your pilots and to me there is no better use of a on board ship slot that beefs up my fighter pilots.
So a good start I would include a min of 2 fighters and having 2 TB, 2DB adds alot of flexability and options in battle. You never want to have to wait for your pilots to come home before loading up that type of craft again. For example if a BB is breaking through a battle line and you need/want to sink it with DB's, however you know that one load will not be enough the job. You dont want to wait for your db group to launch, fly to the bb, then return flight before finally reloading. You want to have a 2nd Dive bomber pilot to be loading as soon as the first takes off. The time difference could be minutes. A BB could do some serious damage given those minutes.
If you go the Hosho line once you get the ryujo you can have 6 pilots (support slots) and can put 2 more on board instead of guns in the T slots. I would put 2 extra fighter pilots in the T slots. It is very annoying having pilots of the same class at different levels. For example you get Tier 3 fighters at level 75 but not all of your fighter pilots are 75. So you either use the new/better T3's with fewer pilots or stay in your inferior planes with all pilots.
P.S stay in blitz until 61. Going GB will get you eaten alive by the big cv's fighters. Not to mention all the extra experience they have at being a cv over you.
