  • Good grind for level 50-70?

So I made the mistake of getting a SS with the US. Stupid, I know, but I figured I already
have a Us CV BO and had an alt BO (long-ago planned to be a BB BO) I dusted off and began
the grind up the SS line.

Very quickly I realized how awful the SS1 was. So I stuck the crew on an Omaha and leveled
up a BO, sonarman, planesman, (higher level) engineer, torpedoman, and took the gunners I
had from the original grind up to CV and started AAing.

Shooting down planes was fun, and good expert fuel. The Omaha also has the nice
advantage of T slots situated near the stern, which makes for good depth charge runs. I
thought getting to SS2 would solve many of the problems, but unfortunately the S-class only
seems marginally better than the O-class. So, since I also had bought a Pensacola long ago,
I decided to grind on to SS3 and see if the Barracuda was better.

I know that US is obviously not a SS nation and I kind of picked the wrong nation to do this
but I'm already knee deep in the grind so I figure I might as well take it all the way. The only
problem is I'm growing out of the Omaha (I mean, I still have fun, its just the BO/torpedoman
have leveled so high I don't get much xp out of it). I figured I'd transition to the Pensacola
but its not as smooth as I thought. Right now I'm trying different combinations (using my
primary gunners to AA, using them with 2 3x 14" guns and a BB FCS, etc). The problem is
with BB guns their spread is still pretty wide and they don't have the range to exchange fire.
As an AA ship it is decent but not as fast, as many barrels, or ASW capable as the Omaha.

So what should I do? Keep grinding the BO/torpedoman on the Pensacola till they hit 61?

I would go with Helmsman advice.

leveling is allways easier when you have good gunners.

So are you planing on getting a US bb crew ? is ss the only thing your interested in ?
are you forcing yourself to level because you feel you have to make use of your
current bo ?

ive been in a similar situation. The grind from 50 - 60 seemed to go on forever when i
was in an in-effective ship with in-effective crew. I eventually just powerleveld a bo
on a moltke

Heres your options

* Sell the crew and scrap the BO
* keep the crew, scrap the BO, powerlevel another bo on another ship
* level a US bb crew (go down the other CA line, get supports and gunners up, then
return to your ss BO on your pensalcola ... only this time your crew will be good
making the grind easier)
* keep chipping away with your current method and have patience, you will reach
ss3 eventually

good luck

Simply put, use your SS2 and learn how to deal with its shortcomings. If you can figure
out a way to make it work and get decent attack more often than not, then once you get
your SS3+, you will find that you're able to do a ton of damage in virtually every battle
you go into. SS3 and especially SS4 have very few weaknesses compared to SS2, and their
strengths are even more apparent. Consequently, learning to drive SS before you get to
that point, using an SS2 that requires a bit more planning and thought to succeed with,
will allow you to absolutely dominate once you reach that SS3+.

Starting to learn SS only once you reach SS3, however, you will find yourself with much
less experience in dealing with the limitations of subs, and you'll have a tougher time.
SS1 is a miserable experience, to be sure. But all SS2 are capable, and not to use them is
depriving yourself of valuable experience.

I give the exact same advice to new BB drivers. The ones who are able to find a way to
succeed and make a positive impact for their team in their BB1 and BB2 are the same people
who are able to regularly sink BB5 in their BB3/4, and absolutely dominate the entire room
once they get to BB5/6.
