If you read your statement again, you said that the US always named their capital ships
after states. Aircraft carriers are capital ships. Aircraft carriers are not named after
states.

I never mentionned carriers being named after states.

I said it was missile submarines lol.

And I belive those fat underwater nuclear silos are quite a capital ship :P

Destroyers were named after naval commanders. Cruisers were named after cities.
Battleships were named after states (except the first 4 before the standard was adopted).
Carriers were not standardized except within their class, which further illustrates their
pariah status even up to 1939.

Since WW2 the naming conventions have changed.

Ballistic Missile submarines are now named after states, attack submarines after cities,
aircraft carriers after presidents, cruisers after battlefields, and frigates/destroyers
after naval commanders.

To aingeal:

US capital ships were not only named after states in the union, the carriers were never
named after states and are very much considered capital ships.

US always name their capital ship after a state. After WWII its missile submarine that got
the states name.

USS North Carolina is a prime exemple of that, since the current USS North Carolina is an
Ohio-Class ballistic submarine unless im mistaken.
