  • Russian CL/CAs - Bogatyr line or Svetlana line? + Kirov

I've decided to help people out here. With current patch, these are what they are.

This is a post on the ships, not how to fix them. That will come later.

I hate figuring out what ship uses what guns (for CLs and below), they confuse the
hell out of me. Therefor, I have taken the liberty to save you time and effort by
providing you with these also (historical setups, not NF style. Testing real setups are
useless atm, as I cant tell range, spread, or damage without more than 1 person and
crap crew). (guns are as close to historically accurate as possible, at the expense of
in game usefulness)

The Russian CA/CL tree:

There's 2 lines, the Bogatyr line, and the Svetlana line. They both converge at the
Kirov CA or the Komsomolets CV. The svetlana line also branches off to the SN SS
line.

The Bogatyr line:

The Bogatyr line, (or Boga line for short), consists of the bogatyr, pallada and the
rurik. All of which are pre dreadnaught (think mikasa), style Cruisers of pre-WWI.

The line is very awkward right now, as their gun slots are different between T and R,
only 2 R slots, and just generally very strange playstyle for NF. Hopefully some of this
gets...a little "fixed".

The Bogatyr Class, the first CL of this line at level 32.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bogatyr_class_cruiser
http://www.navypedia.org/ships/russia/ru_cr_bogatyr.htm
Built in the late 19th century (1898-1907), these "protected cruisers" boasts a
whopping 12x 6" guns in 2 dual turrets and 8 single turrets. It can only fire 4 shells
at a time, and a 8 shell broadside at best.

The Pallada Class, second CL at lv 38.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pallada_class_cruiser
Massive real life picture here: http://tinyurl.com/26pua9d
Built also in the late 19th century (1985-1903) also as protected cruisers, has an
even more impressive 14x 6" guns. The devs. at the SDE head office decided that it
was too much for such a old cruiser, so they took out 4 of them and made them part
of the ship. A 6 shell broadside between R and T slots makes it actually weaker than
the bogatyr class in firepower using a historical setup.

The Rurik (1906), first CA at lv 44.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_cruiser_Rurik_(1906)
http://www.battleships-cruisers.co.uk/rurik1.htm
Built in the early 20th century (1905) by the British, this "Armored cruiser" in contrast
to "protected cruiser", has a main battery consisting of 4x 10" guns, a secondary
battery of 8x 8" guns for your amusement to aim with (this is also the reason why
the Dreadnought was built with all big guns of a single caliber; so you can aim).

Here ends the Bogatyr line's suffering of using both R and T guns, and it goes on to
the Kirov CA or the CV.

The Svetlana line (or the Svet line for short), consists of 2 ships, the Sveltlana CL,
and the KK (Krasnyi Kavkaz) CA.

The Svetlana (1927), first CL at lv 34.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Svetlana_class_cruiser
http://www.navypedia.org/ships/russia/ru_cr_svetlana.htm
Historically, this ship has an amazing 15x 5" guns and 4x 2.5" guns. SDE, even
though giving some Russian BBs **Some** of their casemates, decided that this ship
will not be able to use them. SDE also decided that some of these 19 guns will need
to be T slots, reducing the guns even more. The ship has a grand total of....6x 5"
guns, and 6x 3" guns!

The KK (Krasnyi Kavkaz), the first CA at lv 42.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soviet_cruiser_Krasny_Kavkaz
http://img710.imageshack.us/f/shot0039z.jpg/
A modified Svetlana, this CA was planned to have 8x 8" guns in dual turrets. how
ever, the Svetlana class hull was far too small, so it was commissioned in 1932 with
4x 7.1" guns in single turrets! When modified again in 1940, the secondary
armament was changed to 4x 3.9" AA guns and 4x 3x torps. The armament by itself
seems impressive when compared to other soviet ships, until you remember that the
RN York at lv 40 has 9x 8" guns.

Here ends the Svet line's strangeness, and begins ships that are somewhat
more..."normal"

The Kirov CA at level 50! (No, no ICBMs, rockets, or other fun stuff)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kirov_class_cruiser
http://www.navypedia.org/ships/russia/ru_cr_kirov.htm
Oh, finally a ship that is not built before the 1933 Washington naval treaty! (not that
it really affected the soviet navy >.> ). It is armed with 9x 7.1" guns (In Soviet
Russia, 8" shells will fit in 7.1" guns!), 6x 3.9" guns for AA, and 2x 3x torp tubes for
sinking subs, DDs, APAs, and anything that gets in range! (You can also fit 6x 10"
guns with 1 bind for the hell of it!)

Here ends the normal ships. (and continues with the pre-WWII era battleships)

There is also what I believe to be the PCL for SN is in game, but I don't feel like doing
anything to it, as it is a lv 25 ship with lv 46 guns.

Here's what we're starting with to balance these SN CL/CAs!, oh the joys of what to
come. Do note, most these ships have many different alternative setups, both better
and worse (usually better), and we wont be in as much pain as the soviet navy was
in WWII. I will not make a post about how to balance these ships until stage 2 or 3,
as there is no point at all right now with these crew, you can neither see the shots
land or get them to land on less than 7 targets at once.

Edit: I've been using the test175 account for these, if the people who go on the
server are reading this, please try to refrain from changing these ships around >.>

personally I love the way they have the Cls and CAs set up, they have the relatively
average regularly set up path, and they have the path that has a much higher overall
firepower, combined with the small size makes for great CLs and CAs however they
come with the downside of having to micromanage and actually use T and R slots and 2
sets of gunners seems great though

The Kirov has a remodel to Maxim Gorki...

Personally I think that's a pretty nice one too... Packs quite a punch...
