A list of ASW ships and what configrations to use one them

first you should notice that you need to be credit loaded player so you don't run low on
credit
and these config are only good against subs
1.Z99 DD
R slots
*use front R slot to load a gun DUAL 5.9" or so with heavy shells
you might think am noob for using heavy shells
but it is very good against surfaced subs
*use 2 stern R slots to load non prem HH
*use 2 T slots to load DC

make sure you use a sonar man support slots
and mount some belt and bulge like 4 bulge 0.4 belt
in case you can't or don't want to overheat this will reduce
DC damage
with this config you can drive in about 45 to 40 Knts depends on crew weight and how
many ammo you loaded , which make you fast enough to go for ASW
2.OYODO ECL/CV 0.5
this ship take the ASW concept beyond your imagination it should be
called AASE (advanced anti submarine escort )

now about configration
* use the 2 R slots to load non prem HH
*use the 4 T slots to load DC
*use the A slot to load TB and some scouts
+ don't forget to load a sonar man in support slot

if you want me to explain how to use these ship i ll be more than glad to do it
please if you have other suggested ships with configrations post it

note: some m8's told me that MN have the best DC dammage
not i wasn't able to test any MN ships due to lack of time
if any one tested MN DD or CL with DC can you tell me
is it better than IJN ( you feel a real differance or not )

They never gave us any history, no. That's for Annapolis to dole out. The rest of us
pick it up in gossip, independent reading, or (more commonly) not at all.

No worries.

As far as I can research on wiki and navy resources, there was no sudden loss of
the term. It seems to have simply fallen out of use after the cold war died out and
new technology outdated older terms and command positions. ASDIC was actually
the C&C watch position that is now ASWE rather than any real Sonar operator
watch station. Which means that ASW and ASDIC are related terms but one did not
replace the other. ASW refers to overall Anti-Submarine-Warfare, whereas the
ASDIC was a ship's warfighting coordinator for ASW at the time. The ASWE that we
now use is an ASW-Evaluator.

I remember in a previous post that I made you questioned the A/S as you had never
heard ASW be called that before. I remember you saying about that your a sonar
tech and have not forgotten. So figured you just muddled it up whilst posting or
seeing as you had not heard about A/S had possibly also not heard sonar be called
asdic before either.

Outa interest in the USN's training do they teach the old British terms or much about
its history anyway? Or is it just the practical stuff, how it works and that.

I realise no one uses them anymore, our navy doesnt either, but meh call me
nostalgic for the good old times where British naval terms were British naval terms
rather than American ones. Actually I am not sure at what point they stopped being
used, I know A/S was still in use in the 60's as I've read books and other tales by
officers and ratings in the navy during then and they use the term A/S constantly.

lol @ tipsypo,

I am a real life sonar tech on a USN DDG. I think I should know a thing or too.
There is really nothing wrong with using ASDIC I suppose, since it is more
appropriate to the game time period. However, no one uses that term in the
modern navy.

"Please stop saying ASDIC. It's ASW now."

Erm no its not. Asdic is now Sonar. A/S is now ASW. Either way whats wrong with
using our older term for them?

I agree using torpedoes as A/S (or ASW) weapons is pointless, no matter the nation
though in my opinion, as just as you say submarines can just dodge or submerge
below them easily.

Please stop saying ASDIC. It's ASW now.

I have racked up almost all my sub kills with a Somers using 2 single 5" guns
forward loaded heavy, 2 hh aft (premium or not, whatever you feel like paying or),
and 3 dc's midships. Don't bother messing with torpedoes since US torps tend to
suck, subs can easily dodge them, and they don't do any significant damage to
surface ships. Add about 0.4 bulge and belt until you lose a knot of speed. That's
all just to avoid proximity damage from sub torps and your own dc's. I always
deployed in the US navy for real so I don't have time to mess with other nations.

I agree with Ripz very much.

I use just RN vessels and I've got every RN destroyer. In each one I use the
historical guns although in the tribal though I am using the 2 x 4.7 inch Mark XIX as I
reckon SDE on that one are using a mounting name rather than the gun name.

And then as the secondary positions I am depending upon I guess my mood or
should I notice a room that looks to be going towards no submarines. I use either
depth charges, torpedoes, two pounders, mine racks, or hedgehogs.

As Ripz says it allows you to be more versatile I mean were I to go just A/S and as
the room counts down theres no submarines I'm buggered to uselessness. But with
the setups I use I would still be able to assist against aircrafts or enemy surface
vessels.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

With your A/S vessels I must say I believe once your crew gets too heavy reduce the
gunners and torpedomen and ensure the asdic operator is the most up to strength
followed by your bridge operator. Just as the saying goes "you cannot fight what
you cannot see" so make the asdic operator the most up to strength so the better
or earlier you can spot the submarines followed by the bridge operator so the earlier
you will see his torpedoes coming.

For most DDs and CLs you have far more options then just running pure ASW. Mounting AA and
scouts where applicable can make you much more versatile and can give you more options for
helping your team. Not to mention AA credits greatly boost your exp gain.

You forgot TypeVIIC and Uflak are the best asw ships =P

But my personal preference:

FFy, rear T only DC gives you 50/66, all t DC gives you 48/60+ with a skinny crew.

FF2M1, when i played on NFEU during the HS crisis and had to start over, I put lvl 7 crew
on one of these. Easily 49/60something and guaranteed a sub kill every game or youre doin
it wrong. Only thing is front DC makes it hard to dodge your own DC but it was worth it
killing tier 2-3 subs. They mustve been so mad when the /who me and saw 10 games compared
to their weeks of grinding.

DD Somers, for you US folks, can follow the same setup as the z99, any combo of guns, DC,
or nonprem HH will do. can hit upper 50's-lower 60's OH if youre doing it right.

PCL with HH
Omaha with tierIII engine aft DC

Escorts: can provide additional sonar range, decoy as you retreat back to the bb line or
from ss, and impose a greater threat assessment, or if similar in size, confuse an foe.
I prefer a FF2M3, with a 50kt cruise speed, it will catch up to your main ship in OH or
even cruise past it. I use a trio of ghosted neuts (1xlvl 4 BO, 2xlvl 1 Guns) i just
rolled since their exp/expert gain/base stat is nonexistent. 12 credits to form, like 2
per game.

The list is pretty much endless with all the combinations of ff, dd, cl, ecv, their
escorts, HH, dc, and main guns. Just keep in mind things you need:
-turning radius
-speed
-small profile
