  • Pennsylvania(43) vs. Tennessee(45)

I know there are tons of topics on the forum about them. And i've read alot of them.
But alot are old, and say the same thing. More damage = tenn, more speed= penn.

But what I've been told is that when you have high lvl engineers the Tenn actually
outspeeds the Penn. It also has more damage because of the 16", and holds more
displacement.

I'll have lvl 90 gunners and 4 lvl 82 engineers by the time i reach the level. So would
my crew be too heavy for the penn and it'd be better to put on the Tenn with more
displacement?

Another thing I was thinking about would be to go Penn, and since id have so much
extra Engine over the speed cap for the ship, i could burn experts to get my vets on
my engys past 100 to maybe 120ish. But then, i wouldn't be able to play my SoDak
and i'd have to use my AA ship alot to regain all the experts, but i'd have improved
engys.

The Penn also has 10? t-slots with 71 space, and that's pretty good AA. 10 barrel
broadside of the 5"/38's. but that's going to decrease some of the speed advantage
of the Penn, and all the AA with my higher level crew will be pretty heavy.

So for a lvl 80ish crew with lvl 90 gunners, what ship would you pick and why?

And at what level of the engies does the Tenn become faster than the Penn, my
engies will be about 82, base 11, BVE?

Tenn was fun, but it really comes down to personal preference as others have said.
Basically you are choosing between speed and 14" guns (penn), or less speed but 16"
(tenn).

Either way you are going to be in a bb2 and thus pretty much food in a GB2 (and ultra-
food in a bb room), but the few instances where you are able to find/create a blind spot
and wack some higher teir BB with a bunch of USN 16" pain was immensely satisfying
for me with the tenn45. Plus my understanding is that tenn actually works better if you
ever want to go back to it with a higher level crew (like if your fleet ever stages bb123
fun tournies or whatever) which is another plus.

At any rate if you have a few bucks you can get a seva to switch off to when you get
bored, since its pretty much all around a better ship at any level.

Indeed, the Ten45 is a fun ship but i had a little trouble with at level gunners, but your
crew seems ok i think you will have fun in it. Since the BB5 tries to kill each other you
can shoot them being sneaky, already sunk some L2s with the 16" duals.

Ofcourse, thats not a superman ship, do not expect a canon to canon fight with a L2 or
other BB. If you do something wrong, you are sinking! I didnt like the AA on it also, the
turrets seems strange to shoot with. Got like 3 mid/low lvl engys and the OH speed
time seems ok to me. As overall i recomend it.

TN 45 with high level crew is one of the funnest boats I've driven. Low angle guns are
a blast. As a bb2, the big boys are more worried about bigger ships so be patient,
choose your moments, and dogg them!

I'll tell you what's wrong with the NorCal... It's an Alaska with Nevada speed and nine
16" shells (EPIC FAIL GLASS JAW)

Going back to the original topic, I think that Penny at higher lvls with fatter crew is
actually inferior to Tennessee. But here's why you go for Penny:

1. Higher speed with lower lvl Engies
2. Noobs mistake it for a Nevada and let you get into range, shoot off a good powerful
salvo, and get away with it...
3. If anyone is sentimental towards USS Arizona (Pennsylvania-class), then go with this
ship. For me, playing a Penny43 named "USS Arizona" was almost like honoring her crew and
fighting on her behalf.

I trust that I don't need to explain the story of USS Arizona if you are an American.

Alright thanks everyone, although the Tenn won't be as fast, i'll take it for the 16"s,
which fits my playstyle better as I'm struggling to get 50k+ games in my SoDak.

Although I hear alot about how sexy the tenn45 looks, I just don't see it?

Perhaps I read this wrong, but doesn't the Penn/ Tenn line lead to the North Carolina?
