  • Soviet recap, what happens now....

As you all know, the deadline for the Soviet Navy has passed last week. Now before
you start saying it isn뭪 done, and there are still issues, please read further, I will get
to that later. I figured it was time for views on the whole process, on what went
right, and more importantly, what went wrong, and how we can improve for the
following projects.

First of all, I am glad we were able to do this on an 몂pen? testserver again.
And there I come to one of the points already, the testserver.
In general the server worked pretty well. We had some issues with sailor classing in
the beginning, but that was eventually solved. Although I have to say that real
server ebve sailors will be better than the testserver ones we had, even though the
vet number on the testserver was quite high.

Something that caused issues was the 몊hared?open accounts. It was unavoidable
that some people would make choices in classing that others didn뭪 agree with.
Some accounts were quite messed up at some points. Something I think we should
be able to improve with a more structured schedule of server resets. I know resets
may be annoying, but it will make sure most accounts are useable.

One thing I was disappointed about was the fact that a lot of people weren뭪 really
interested in using the testserver to test, but only really to hang around in bb6/cv6.
While this was not unexpected, I hoped it wouldn뭪 be as bad as it was now. There
were even reports of people messing up tests just because they refused to sue a
different (lower tier) ship. Managing the stocks was 1 option, but still I hoped that
wouldn뭪 be necessary.

Another thing that I will definitely do different next time is to be more open about
what is going on. It is tempting to do some things quickly on msn or on a TS channel,
but I understand some of the concerns and frictions that were caused by that. That
will change. From now on we will try to have more open discussion topics on these
forums. Also there will be more of a structure in requesting the changes. We won뭪
hop on the testserver, select a few ships and start modifying them. We will first
make sure what we want to achieve with it (on these forums again) and then will try
to find the best/easiest way to get that done.

One mistake we/I made is the amount of range changes that we requested.
Changing the ranges is a nightmare for the devs, and we could have had a lot more
and faster patches if we requested fewer of them, or if we had bundled them
together in 1 request instead of dropping 1 or 2 in every single request.

Now what will happen next?

First of all, SN will be patched on the main servers soon. After that we will see how
our changes work. I do realize there are open issues remaining. The submergence,
bb4/5 are a few of them. Like I said earlier, our deadline has passed, but that does
not mean that we cannot do anything about that anymore. We will start with a new
project soon, and I wil try to ninja in some SN fixes (after discussion here of course,
like said before). I already was told by the GM뭩 that this is possible. Therefore I
would like people to continue thinking about this.

PRINCIPES
The main aim is to compare ships in the same class on a ship by ship basis. I understand
your point in relation to GBs. But this is not the environment where bbs should be
compared. They should be compared with each other directly since HA and BB battles revolve
around the same class of BB vsing each other.

So atm i dont see a problem with the sovietsy since. It has much higher hangtime than KM,
worse AA and much worse turning but makes up for it in hitting power and "range" (but noob
hangtime). Any
alteration would simply make it not useable or sub-par in BB battles.

The issue I do not feel comfortable, is the part where you are ''making me
thinking'' much more in a 1 v 1 situation or GB issue problem.

If you feel it is appropriate to discuss balance regarding in a very small room
or gbs, it's your right. But honestly, GBs is a place where everything stupid
could happen. Out of the whole BB players, I doubt the ratio of smart player will
be sailing on the same team as yours. Lot of the cvs will sit right there, and
cross their arms while watching you getting nuked.

Not much people will be able to back you up, if someone happen to bum rush,
you're gone. Your concept is much more based in a solo job.

While in a line fight or ''reasonable size bb room'' is where you can rely on bbs
itself only. Although the BB room mentality is dying, I dont see anything else
which is the best solution so far.

Yet, you may feel it has crap AA because you compared to KM. But it was and
currently is meant to be useable and not good. Yet, it is many times better
than the USN and UK AA itself. I think you would agree on this point that you
don't compare with 1 or 2 things, but also with the nation left.

High angle debate was always an issue. Remember that high angle ship
technichally have good armour penetration, unless the shells is bugged, which
is another story.

Also.

Honestly, the question regarding high angle hangtime issue should not be a
problem in a sense, that you know the opponent's move. Hell, I do sometime
have hard time dealing with a bb because I neglect to predict his move, and
just stupidly shoot right on him.

EDIT:
That being said, enjoy contemplating some bbs fighting other bbs without
standing a chance, Because, for I, knowing that much ship turns as fast or
faster as other nation tier ship, and have a great turning force.

PRINCIPES
I am talking on a BB vs BB basis. Every ship should have a balance to counter the other.
Either in speed range. AND that doesnt mean increasing the speed BY 1 knot over a ship that
has greater range. because that does F**k all. In Bb battles.

By the time the ship witht the one knot advantage kicks in the running ship will already have
killed the bb, 10 times before that 1 knot advantage kicks in.

With the soviet nation. Range should be equal to KM. WHY? 45 degree angle allows Km to pull
away faster one he get the shot away. 45 degree is hard to adjust moving ships since shells
take ages to hit. Just because they have equal range DOES NOT MEAN they have equal
advantage. Sovietsky has longest hangtime of any ship. That why h44 always get most
attack in skilled hands in BB room and HA.

Soviet nation i believe is fine since the ship turn speed is crap. So any sub max range battle
will expose the nation for its lack of manoverability and slower speed (39). That being said
the 45
degree
disadvantages the SN enough to give it equal range to Km bb5. But because sovietsky
makes up for this in Crap AA but good fire power and it should have the best hit resistance
compared to KM.

The question you should ask Principes, why are you worrying about chasing?

Are you talking about 1 v 1 room, or GBs room, or bb rooms?

PRINCIPES
The balance of Soviet damage is fine. It has LESS range than KM and 45 degrees. People
dont understand how annoying hangtime is against l2 and KM. Its should be capped at 39
knots and be less manoeverable. (but obviously not that muche less manoverable or it will be
a rock in the water)

But damage should defo not suffer and nor should its hit resistance since it will have to chase
ships with <45 degrees. angle is simply not fair. Chasing non 45 degree ships with 45 degrees
is the most frustrating thing. It allows for easy hit and run to ships with longer range and less
hangtime.

The newsletter surprised me, with the "best range" versus the "good range" the
test team was shooting for. I don't think it would be possible to balance best range
and good damage in regards to KM. Not without extreme measures. Just imagine
the H44 grind with a ship like that on the other team. That would be un fucking
bearable.

I really hope that MM can get the devs to slide in some more changes to this nation,
or there is gona be hell on the servers, and on the forums.

"+ Best gun range

+ Destructive damage
Around IJN"

With the exception of the BB4 12" guns and the BB5 lvl 110.

Besides, this nation description is not helping our balancing efforts, if people are going
to demand SN having the mentioned advantages.

About time they fix their banner event, else massive riot complain when they
pick SN.

+ Fast reloading time
Only the Gangut 12"s, Kronstadt 12"s, BB1, single 7", and a few other low level guns have
this advantage...

- Weak torpedoes
I lol'd too.

- Hard to equip suitable armor
Sounds about right.
