As you all know, the deadline for the Soviet Navy has passed last week. Now before you start saying it isn뭪 done, and there are still issues, please read further, I will get to that later. I figured it was time for views on the whole process, on what went right, and more importantly, what went wrong, and how we can improve for the following projects.
First of all, I am glad we were able to do this on an 몂pen? testserver again. And there I come to one of the points already, the testserver. In general the server worked pretty well. We had some issues with sailor classing in the beginning, but that was eventually solved. Although I have to say that real server ebve sailors will be better than the testserver ones we had, even though the vet number on the testserver was quite high.
Something that caused issues was the 몊hared?open accounts. It was unavoidable that some people would make choices in classing that others didn뭪 agree with. Some accounts were quite messed up at some points. Something I think we should be able to improve with a more structured schedule of server resets. I know resets may be annoying, but it will make sure most accounts are useable.
One thing I was disappointed about was the fact that a lot of people weren뭪 really interested in using the testserver to test, but only really to hang around in bb6/cv6. While this was not unexpected, I hoped it wouldn뭪 be as bad as it was now. There were even reports of people messing up tests just because they refused to sue a different (lower tier) ship. Managing the stocks was 1 option, but still I hoped that wouldn뭪 be necessary.
Another thing that I will definitely do different next time is to be more open about what is going on. It is tempting to do some things quickly on msn or on a TS channel, but I understand some of the concerns and frictions that were caused by that. That will change. From now on we will try to have more open discussion topics on these forums. Also there will be more of a structure in requesting the changes. We won뭪 hop on the testserver, select a few ships and start modifying them. We will first make sure what we want to achieve with it (on these forums again) and then will try to find the best/easiest way to get that done.
One mistake we/I made is the amount of range changes that we requested. Changing the ranges is a nightmare for the devs, and we could have had a lot more and faster patches if we requested fewer of them, or if we had bundled them together in 1 request instead of dropping 1 or 2 in every single request.
Now what will happen next?
First of all, SN will be patched on the main servers soon. After that we will see how our changes work. I do realize there are open issues remaining. The submergence, bb4/5 are a few of them. Like I said earlier, our deadline has passed, but that does not mean that we cannot do anything about that anymore. We will start with a new project soon, and I wil try to ninja in some SN fixes (after discussion here of course, like said before). I already was told by the GM뭩 that this is possible. Therefore I would like people to continue thinking about this.
