  • Detect presence of sub - without seeing it!

If you try to retreat when a sub is near - even if it's not detected by anyone - It will tell
you that an enemy is too close. If there is no sub around, you get the popup asking if
you wish to retreat.

A player escorting the flagship did this on a hunch, warned the flagship, even though
the SS was undetected the whole way over, the flagship avoided death through this.
10 seconds later the SS surfaced in pursuit of the flagship, but just out of reach of
them.
Flagship would have died had the escort not done this.

"FF and DD detect SS.
CL and CV detect SS with a sonar.
CA has limited SS detection with sonar.

detection range depends on: Overheat, level of sonar, ect."

Sorry but there are some flaws in your logic here. CA's cannot under any circumstances
detect subs on their own. Sonar only works on CL and below and CV. CA's can detect them
with escorts but not on their own.

Well you know it's in the area but that's it.

You guys are missing the point here. I isnt like I would want to retreat or have the
wrong fcs, ammo, setup. Lets say I am in a AA PCA covering the BB line and a sub was
scouted heading this way earlier. Just checking if I can retreat can give me and
everyone around a heads up that sub is near.

Now, thing is, taking advantage of a known bug to do something the game did not
intend to do is the definition of exploita.

The "enemy in sight" at least in my experience has never alerted me to a submarine
that is submerged and not being picked up by my asdic. I also do hope they remove
this, just exploiting a glitch in the game.

Would this explain my rookie saying "Enemy ship in sight!" Even though there wasn't
any enemy visible at the time?

You guys do realize that the "enemy in sight" will often detect submerged subs

Recommended. I didn't think of this. But only recommended because it's good to know, not
because it's good to use.

Hopefully SDE will code this out of the game, because it's kind of like glitching if you
ask me. (I'm not saying it's cheating, but it's not the way the game was designed to be
played).
