I got 500 in an event and put them to good use with my CV in the very early days -
essentially spamming mines in the north/south areas where ships woud try to flank
my team. In blitz they are deadly effective and some games I would sink 3 ships and
damage others, sometimes I would put out dozens of mines to no result at all. still,
its good fun and a long string of mines can really disrupt a rushing group of enemy.

Hint: with a bunch of scouts in one flight, dont spam the mine-drop button, tap it
slowly to create a drawn-out string of mines.

As above says any level scout pilot can use mines, however they are not an
standard item and require purchasing in the store per 200 assuming I remember the
quantities right.

I personally love doing it, but ive been saving my mines. Theyre very powerful and if
an SS or a CV has already torped a BB, 2-3 can be devastating. Well, 2-3 can be
devastating anyways. If you have enough or you dont need the ones you have, go
for it. They can be a very good disruption and if used right can even take out a BB or
cripple one.

I suggest throwing them on any CL or CA you might be using for AA, its just one
more weapon against the enemy.

What level does the scout pilot have to be to have the ability to use the mines? I
tried to load mines and was unable to.???

I dont use it, i thing its not good.

A lot of it depends on if the warship being hit carries .2 or more belt. I've hit ships for
nearly 10k a mine. But when they're wearing belt armor the hits turn into 3k's.

You do not do much damage. I still think it is worth the effort though. You get some
points for it and you wear the enemy down a little. Mines can take out a wounded DD or
CL if you are lucky.

Well, if you're in a decent level CV with lots of scout pilots, you can make a pretty
formidable mine field with them. They do really nice damage to battleships, and I've
sunk a couple with them too.

About as good as an armour whored hood with at level crew!

I've caused some major chaos with a Ise (CV) and launching flocks of scouts with 2
pilots.

The best thing about mines is that AA ships usually run them over and sink easily.
Another thing I love to do is placing a crap ton of mines behind a BB that has a
tendency to run like crazy. They usually freak out thinking it's a sub.
