  • Returning player frustrated by Crash To Desktop

So, I haven't played NF in about a year. I was watching some History Channel special and I
started itching to bring out my BB.

I started by just trying to update my NF via the launcher, get the message that I should
do a manual patch because this patch is too big for the updater (lol). Fair enough, I oblige.

I went to downloads page, read about "if u haven't played in 3 months+ you should just
redownload the whole client". Fair enough, I oblige. (this is the 1315 client btw). I also
manually download the 1315 patch and let it do its thing.

I'm on a Vista 64bit Machine:

Run from launcher: Crash to desktop.
Run as administrator: CTD

*frustrated*, google the problem. Find:

Disable my visual themes etc: still CTD

I do everything it says. Uninstall, clean registry, install, patch, run as admin: still CTD

It seemed like that last set of instructions is what cured most peoples problems, so now
its not looking good for me. Are there any other suggestions people might have?

tl;dr : Vista 64 bit. Uninstalled, cleaned registry, reinstalled, patched, ran as admin.
Still CTD. Help?

Sorry for mixing the Win 7 for Vista, either way its the same process for the x64
version.

ok so you have the game installed and when you click the launcher it tries to start
but instead it CTD's everytime?

You are not getting to the Accept screen?

Can you try this process, navigate to the folder for NF, and there is the Launcher there
click that one and see if you get the same result?

I was told via a support ticket to run in win98/me compatibility mode then run as admin,
hopefully that will assist you in your venture, it did help me out, im running "vista"
COUGH COUGH lol

Well, as I mentioned twice in my post, I am running Windows Vista 64 bit, not Windows 7...

Anyway. I've since uninstalled > cleaned registry > installed > patched, again, and still
crashing.

I saw a thread posted yesterday that mentioned "HSRemover" (Hack Shield Remover?). Is this
an SDE product? Where can I find it?

Lets see if we can get you running

Since you are using Win7 lets start from scratch and install the full client but as you get
started make sure it will install into the "Program Files(x86) folder" not the one its setup
to use. After install DONT run the program.
Exit and reboot

RT click on the launcher and run as admin, disable visual themes and desktop compression
and save
Then start the launcher and make sure your Hackshield gets updated in the upper Left
corner

Once that is dont accept and let it exit

Now run the launcher and accept and try to login.
Please note if you have not played your account will most likely be archived and you
need to send a support ticket to get it restored and make sure you tell them when
last you played.
