  • Dsl vs cable internet

I've always used cable Internet...now since recently moved...I'm shopping for options to my new home and want
player base opinion.

I can get cable int for 50 a month
I can get dsl for 40 a month.

(not sure which is the better deal...I'm locked to two options because of stupid local government
restrictions/authorizations of local service monopolizations to the above providers. )

What's your thoughts?

Back home, I get around 80mb/s with cable. We only pay for 24. That's also with 6-8
computers online and on the internet at all hours of the day. (My father works from
home).

I haven't had DSL for a long time. But from what I remember, it was a lot more reliable and
more stable than the cable I have now. Not nearly as fast, but oh well.

Which of them throttle much more?
We got shitty ISP here in Canada, especially the east. I don't know the case for US citizen,
but I will definitely look on the catch behind them.

Actually, the whole getting knocked off the net thing really depends on your
provider.

Charles, this is coming from someone who can get both in his area.

Nexicom offers DSL and cable, my family and i got DSL and it works fine. DSL actually is
less clogged and i'm tapped into there main line to the servers (benefits about being able
to help the company with tech support when they got hacked).

Cable lines get bogged down and have to be refreshed more often than DSL lines do. With
cable you'll find you get knocked off around give or take 1 AM in whichever time zone your
in since that is the least populous time for internet use.

DSL isn't so bad, I have a 7mb/s line and I always have 7mb/s available to me.

Do you really need 50mb/s?

Overall, Fiber Optics>Cable>DSL. However, you can sometimes pay more money for
a higher guarenteed speed. I personally wouldn't touch DSL though.
