Winning bid, $312,000.00 and you still have to pay the crew to hall it off.

they sell some really cool stuff on that site, a year ago they auctioned off like 12 A-37s
w/o engines, sadly tho they had to be destroyed...

apart from that its probably the number 1 source of military surplus for most surplus
stores and gun show dealers... alice packs, holsters, load bearing harnesses, etc are
sold by the pallet load there

There was a bill passed in Congress a while back that requires the navy to keep Iowas in
condition to be used again, even though they are currently floating museums. Its sad to
see these barrels get cut up, but I would imagine that the navy has quite a few laying
around. They are probably getting rid of them as for whatever reason they were not
re-milled after being used during the war (except the one re-milled in the 50s).

When my platoon was deployed to Iraq in 2004, we were given all kinds of brand new weapons
that were still packed in cosmoline. One of our M2s was stamped made in '46 from the
Singer sewinig machine company. I wish I'd gotten a picture of it. Across the company,
they were giving out a few M14s per platoon, all dating from the 50s. When I was in basic
training in 1993, they had us throwing hand grenades that were manufactured in the early
70s. Who else knows what kinds of goodies are in the government's warehouses....

That kinda sucks. If an Iowa ever fires her guns again and there's an accident, there won't be
any replacements. I guess we'll never see them fire again.

I hope they're not planning on scrapping any of them. But I wouldn't doubt the Iowa herself
would be the first to go.

I think to demill them, you'd have to weld a bar in the bore and drill a hole in the
breech.

would be cool to see them go to museums or vfw's... or a awesome lawn ornament...
