Actually, when you're inside the superstructure, it doesn't give you a headache at
all. (Something about 17.5" of armor between you and the gun.) Now outside or in
the turrets... that's a different story. We got the BIG earmuffs for that duty!

I loved all of the photos. Here are some I found on a website that I go to often.

All three of the New Jersey
North Carolina #2
Tennesse #1
And last but not what-so-ever the least, Wisconsin #2...Probably the best of all

To find these easier I have put * next to the best as listed above

New Mexico, the top one isnt the ship firing, but shows just how large the 14 inch
shells were as compared to the average sailor.

Hope you enjoyed this fine photo gallery...

P.S., just imagine being on those ships as they fired... That was the true Shock N
Awe... Head aches, phew everyone had to have them. Now, imagine being on the
recieving end... Wonder what it really was like on the other ships as the were hit or
what if felt like for soldiers in their bunkers as the shells landed... That is just
AMAZING firepower.

The US keeps BB's going NOT for any real combat purpose, but more as in the
traditional old British Gunboat Diplomacy role, showing up saying

"Look at the size of my Guns"

Whereas we all know, it's not the size....it's how well you can find the target!!

Yeah, but the whoosh of a Tomahawk firing ain't nothing compared to the shudder
and flash of the main guns. When the pressure wave washes over you, you realize
how small you really are, and how greatful that you're standing on the
superstructure and not in FRONT of those things. It's been 15 years since I felt
those guns fire, and I'll never forget it.

The modernized Iowas DO have Harpoon Anti-ship missiles and Tomahawk cruises
on them. While a missile might not do too much damage to these BBs, a single hit
from a HARM will take out its radar, rendering it to visual range combat only.

yup...but really you think a BB guns and out fire a missile? nah...in today's modern
war the only thing one needs to do is arm the missile, press the big red button, and
sit back and watch the other guy blow up from the comfort of his/her base...or
house....or ship...you get my point.

its kinda sad there is like no BB in the modern navies anymore...the only remaining
BBs are either retired, scarped, or nuked. wished they kept at least one and instead
retiring it just strap on like freakin ICBMs or some big ass missiles and BOOM! you
the mobile big missile laucnhing ship.

While most modern anti-ship missiles will not be able to sink a battleship, they will
be able to render it combat ineffective rather easily. Also, if battleships were still
common, then there would be more powerful missiles to counter-act them.

firing a full broadside i think will move the ship. it may not be the several feet that
most people claim but maybe in inches. those guns are just too powerfull even if the ship
weighs over 60k tons.
