  • Problem with Atlanta HA

Ok, so I bought myself an Atlanta when I hit lvl 30. I use the 5/54L's with light HE
and AP rounds. I decide that I will not play in any DD/CL games with this ship. So I
stick to CL/CA and sometimes CL/CA/BB. I stock up on deck armor and some bulk
with a little belt. I take my time in these games and pick my spots. I generally wait
until some bigger ships start fighting each other. I then open fire at the extent of
my range. First problem is a cant seem to hit much at lvl 30. (It has got a little
better now that I am lvl 35). Next problem and this is the big one, is that my little
shells do not do much damage and really seem to piss off some of the larger ships.
I mean really piss off. And once some lvl 45+ gunners lock me in with 8inch guns, I
do not last long. I only see to come out of these battles with 10K or less attack.

Now I put the same crew in my DDX with no armor and 10 6inch guns, I generally
get 15K-20K attack every battle. And since these battles take less time, I can fit
more in a night. Maybe I just don't know what I am doing with an Atlanta, or maybe
the DDX is just overpoered for a DD, but why would someone leave a DDX for an
Atlanta other than to AA with?

For CL/CA games, use deck.

Then again, against 8inch guns, atlanta armour wont be doing much...

If I stay at my maxinum range for my 5/54's, are the 8in CA's going to be hitting my
belt or deck? Right now I have 1.0 deck and 1.6 belt with 10 bulk. should I change
that or is it a good mix?

Uhh.... The oak and the atlanta are two of the most powerful ships of their level.
Don't believe me? Ask slowhands. His mog was bouncing AP rounds off mklai while i
was dropped 130s or so on his head. You will get attacked a lot. Not because you're
easy but because APC and high angle will own a lot of ships. Alaska vs Atlanta does
not always go in the alaskas favour if you do it right...

Cl/ca/bb. APC and maybe 1 he heavy for low armour charging dido or something. Bit
of bulk, bit of deck and a bit of belt. It doesn't have the room for much armour but
what you can fit should be done to save crew.

More deck and belt is needed thats true, but think this way more armour means low
speed right? So it will take more time to get close to the enemy...which means you
will take great damage while approaching and geting out of range

I used APC shell when I used oakland. In general I attacked 15k-20k.

So in CL/CA games, should I use more Deck or Belt armor? At the max range on my
5/54's, what will the angle be of the 8's shooting back at me? Just wondering if I
redo my armor I can live longer.

I suggest you wait till brook, Atlanta sucks if you can not high angle,(but for me ,it
still sucks at cl/ca/bb games) YEt you earn good credits at cl/ca/bb games,
For better exp,i would prefer Dd games, because Ddx with 5/54 it really rocks:P

Lose the HE shells, the AP shell for the 5" 54 gun is by far one of the best US shells
and the only US AP shell 8" and under that is worth a damn.

While it is powerfull against most ships in a low angle belt shot, you really want to
use it in a HA attack on the deck of enemy ships. That shell can pop enemy decks of
six and maybe seven inches, and not very many ships can carry that much deck
armor. That is the reason you have been pissing them off, even though your HE
shells do not harn them. I and a bunch of other Atlanta drivers have taught all of
the CL drivers and up to respect an Atlanta that drops AP shells on their decks. The
5" 54 shell is so overpowered there is not ship in the game you can not sink. You
will find that once you start dropping shells on a CL and above they will almost
always turn their guns on you even if a CA is pounding it you will be targeted
because the respect they have for your AP shells. So you should use them.

The DDX is an overpowered DD that bridges the gap from the Sommers/Timmerman
to the Atlanta, before the DDX was released there was a 50% to 75% jump in
power from the DD's to the Atlanta. The Atlanta does have more gun mounts and
more displacement than the DDX so it is more powerfull and can load more armor,
and has one more support slot for training crewmen.

There is definatly a reason to move into the Atlanta, while I do endorse the Atlanta
let me just say that having taken three B/O's through it, I hate this ship and thank
god I do not have to train another B/O.
