I'm always constantly amazed at the 5/54L's range, personally. I pack 1.3" deck, 1"
belt.

For cl/ca use deck and bulk with a little belt for rushing didos and sirii. I find that a
bit of deck, belt and bulk helps minimise crew loss. Im running 0.6" deck, 0.4" belt
and 7 bulk (or there abouts) cos i use 5/54s and have level 44 gunners with level 37-
40 support crew (4 of them) and an AA gunner. Which essentially means heavy
crew+heavy guns=no armour. So i use what i can to minimise crew loss.

Oak's and atlantas don't get 8"s...

5/54Ls should give you a good range.

Well 5"/54's aren't exactly long range guns. You're barely outside the range of most
DD's with them. (and inside the range of those juicy little Z99 bastards!)

I'm talking 8" guns as being long range. They're slower, but you've got 50% more
range than most DD's, depending on the gun. You'll also need to hang back and
have other ships spot for you, as you can fire farther than you can see.

With 5" or 6" guns of any kind, you'll want belt and bulge armor, because those DD's
will be cruising up your shorts. You're good XP to them.

Depends on the guns you're using and the scenario you're in. If you're firing at
range with friends, you want deck armor. If you have few friends and find
destroyers rushing in, you'll need belt armor and torpedo bulge.

If you're just getting in to an Atlanta and you're tight on cash, go with belt and
bulge armor. Deck armor is more expensive, heavier, and requires you to learn how
to use your guns at range and stay there. It's the kind of thing you grow into. =)
