When I'm looking at guns I can't seem to figure out what the /D and /L means. I
heard that the /L is a little ore range but what about the /D?

I strongly advise you against going the D path
the range is too short to use decent shells, then you'll have to move dangerously
close to enemy ships... becaming an easy prey

Hmmmm.... sounds like I should be getting /D's instead of normal versions then.

L model has more range but slower reload, is heavier and takes more space and
turns slower
D model has less range but faster reload, is lighter and takes less space and turns
faster
