Blitz died for various reasons.
1. Poor player base. At the begining it was full of ppl, + later many NFers flooded Blitz reality, to leave quite fast after SD "bug" was removed. 2. Blitz lacked in improvments to the game play (just like in NF - killed OpC, no HA) 3. Server updates. It was good to some point and then steadily from poor to bad and to worst. 4. Real lack in game balance. Few early lvls were cool for both sides, but from lvl 8 to like 18, playing Soviet was just sado-masochism. Lvl 20 toys were uber, but not many ppl reached them. (this is of course issue [balance] which need to be addresed in NF very soon). 5. Lack of fun from certain point. I cant put right now finger on it, but as ppl moved away from Blitz ppl playing Russian often faced impossible odds (like 15 Reds vs 80 Germans). You must admit it was BS.
Thats few points I can think of. Without urgent changes to NF shape (more ships, more playing, less waiting and pointless talking), NF facing same fate.
