Anyone out there with enough points to start an IJN fleet? Id be totally down with
it...
I am thinking we can take on the americans like we did back in '41.

This time, the results will be different!

  • Night Torps

You are right about the torp ruling the night, and the plane the day.

Even though the destroyers and des at leyte held the japanese off, the best uses of
torps was guadal and indonesia. later, the ijn skills were offset by sheer numbers.
so perhaps tws should have to go at sheer numbers of folks.

Anyways, this game has a lot of potential to get super complicated...I think it would
be interesting to set up battles and invasions. were talking pretty complicated stuff
that would be super time intensive.

In night battle, torp visibility is poor to non-existant. Many ships were sunk without
ever spotting the torpedos that hit them.

Without radar directed gunnery, torpedos is the king of night fights. Even with radar,
radar directed torpedo attacks are still very powerful.

Unlike in navyfield, ships in real life turns extremely slowly and do not have magical
speed boost up to 40+ knots, while the Type93 oxygen torpedos can indeed go over 44knots......

Shows exactly how the IJN managed to torp whore some n00b CAs LOL

Torpedo-ed, wheeled and run while watching stupid CA not taking evasive action until its
too late........ GG :o
-------------------
But really, Aircraft is the king of day fights and torpedos the queen of the night, and
guns really aren't that much of an anti-ship weapon when you add up the tallies of ships
sunk....

And effectiveness of torpedos are not limited to the IJN...in the battle of Battle of
Surigao Strait, destroyers demolished over half of the IJN attacking force before it
reached the guns of supporting battleships....the destoryers sank the battleship Fuso,
heavily damaged the battleship Yamashiro and sank an number of escort destroyers......at
no loss to itself...... (just imagine the whining if this happened in NF)

In another battle, Battle off Samar, some Destroyer Escorts managed to hold off, of all
things, the battleship yamato and its supporting battlefleet by using torps to chase the
big Y out of the battle area....

  • Clan War restirctions?

I missed the last clan war. will there be another? And which ships were restricted?

TWs are bad if they fire and then leave a battle, but now that I have figured out
how they work, I dont think they are all that evil if they stick around to shoot it out.
I mean that's how much of WWII was fought, no?

Also, i have been reading the night battle stuff. i think that torp visibility would have
to be super limited to make it a good plan. Im racking my mind to think about how
the IJN did during guadalcanal at night after their torps were shot, and i seem to
think they did ok.

IJN fleet aint weak if you use the right ships.

Meaning: everyone is either TW or CV.... :D With large number of TW, no ship can really
break though the front while the CV can bomb everything to hell. The only problem with
the plan is rushing BB or sneaky ff/q/speedwhore..... The former requires large use of
T93mod1 to peel away escorts than hope there is enough CV around. The latter means a few
tsukikei should be around to clean up infilitrators.

Sadly enough though, all IJN ships worth using are IJN ships being restricted in clanwar...

Hmm, can add that under suggestions, they might think about it, even although I
don't have much to say about teamNF.
Perhaps you should edit your first post and say that you're seeking folks who'll obey
orders and so on? I for one will atleast try to if I'll join. Wouldn't mind getting
command of the escortforce ;)

Thanks for the compliment on the avatar.

Any discussion of night battles?

Apparently, it was General Nogi that killed himself and his wife when the Emperor
died. And we are not the Army. They were a sloppy bunch, and did all sorts of
horrible things. As far as I know, the worst the IJN did was transportting prisoners
in terrible conditions, but that is neither here nor there.

I am sure they could whip something up with flares, sea planes, searchlights, and
we get to see in the dark but the Americans do not. Also, what was clan wars like?
Was it pretty cool, and did people fight in-line, or was it all over the place?

How can one find some other folks to do more coordinated fighting with?

I'm in if they'll have a onetime fee on retail. Going hybrid in that case, so I'm both gun
and aircraft support for the fleet. Should work well in escort roles, since I should have
enough firepower to fend of enemy attacks on the main carriers, and have fighters
for cover while they focus on bombers and TB's.
I'm afraid I haven't seen it, sgarchik. And by the way, appropiate avatar. ;)

Heck Yea!
Were could totally go old school Jap fleet ala Togo, Yamamoto, Nomura, Nagumo,
Nagano, Fuchida, Genda, Tenaka, and Kondo.

But then, wed have to also have to be Hiroaki Abe (the guy who left guadalcanal
without blowing it up after he sunk Callaghan's fleet at night), Boshiro Hosogaya
(the guy who couldn't finish the job in the Komandorski Islands, evem though the
Americans did get a little beat up because their guns frooze that day.), Takijiro
Onishi (the guy who invented Kamikaze, but couldn't finish the job on himself and
woud up bleeding out after a couple of hours), Soemu Toyoda (who argued that
Japan could still fight after being nuked twice), Tamon Yamaguchi (who I believe
strapped himself to the Hiryu while it was sinking during Midway, even though he
would probabaly have been more useful to the IJN in later years), and some other
guy I forget who, if memory serves correct, killed himself after winning a battle
because of some other silly reason that escapes me now.

By the way, anyone out there own a book called "Kaigun?"

Bonzai!
