it becomes important when you have to start shooting further than the auto aim will allow you to do accurately.
i don't recomend putting it off till then, if you have been manual aiming since your ff. you will have flawless aim by the time you're at that stage. if you decide to start learning manual around lvl 30, you will suck in your cl.

So if the auto-aiming advantage is neglible in DD's, when does it become more important?

in the end all that matters is damage and will u get more damage with 4 shells or 12 its ur choice

still use 6 single with autoaiming on a Q class

somehow i like em more than the double 4s ..more accurate and
even if you hit only with one shell
id may smack 300 up to 370 out of you opponent + over long range
you will only need 50 shells per turret for a battle

in my eyes only very good manual aiming players have a big advantage over autoaiming users in dds ;)

WOOOT for lazy comehomefromworkdontwannaknotsinmyfingers autoaim players

;)

I'd use single 6"s for the longer range, but you MUST use aiming FCS. If your too used to Auto FCS... dump it anyway, aiming FCS is better in the long run.

As for best firing style Im not sure:
Here are the types:

Simultaneous: Holds fire so that BOTH gunners have reloaded, and then they fire at the same time.

Gradual: Fires one turret at a time, Ive noticed it is easier to get experts in this mode (in missions)

Max Velocity: If one of your gunners reloads faster than the other, this mode allows one gunner to fire before the other.

Preferably, I use Simultaneous b/c i like my shells to hit all at the same time. I notice a slightly tighter spread as well.

While I'm at it, is any one firing style better? gradual, simultaneous, max velocity?

you shouldn't really use auto aim with single barrels. you only have 4 shells and you really can't afford to be inaccurate. with dual guns or triple, your aim can be a bit off and you will still hit... but with single, when you miss... you miss.

i recomend you take the time to learn manual aiming. do the training mission, they teach you how to aim there.
it took me about one and a half days to get good at manual aiming. for the first few hours you will be very fustrated with it, this is normal :P

Can you fire longer range if you use aiming FCS?

Still haven't gotten the trick of it yet, and I still use auto.

I just bought the first 6" single barrel and I cannot get range past my aiming markers.
