@Lan

Saying that I am leveling my CV crew(BO 4 ftr 4 torp pilots 1 seaman), would you recommend
that I get a Furious so I can fit the entire crew on it(minus 1) than use my county? As
is with lvl 50+ crew, I only get 6k xp in a gb2 win in my emerald, but I get 15-20k xp in
a gb2 win in my County. For leveling purposes, County destroys the Emerald. Furious only
shows 3 t slots on each side, would it still be effective?
I willing to get it if it is, I just don't want to drop 5 bucks and have a ship that wont
significantly help me more than the County/Emerald.

On emerald I do have an issue with being able to fit my entire crew on. I use lvl 68
reload gunners, and then fill with fighters and come up 2 ppl short of filling support
slots. County doesn't have an issue. Is it safe to ghost crew?

@Thancor
You are missing a pilot. You need 8 to effectively run a CV6. Or just slap on a medic
or 2 engies if you feel you want speed more.

Cheers lads.

I enjoy using the County for several reasons we've listed above. Speed, being able to
take a salvo and get away(if it isn't a direct hit), but more importantly it helps the xp
because of the higher level ship for higher level crew, as well as it has another support
slot for leveling another crew member. In my case, I was almost able to lvl my entire CV
crew in it. Got my CV BO, plus 7 pilots with my 2 reload gunners.

While I say its not "wrong" to use a County, I do understand your point of, if you are
there to AA, do it in the most effective ship out there, which would be the Emerald.

Well, again, the main problem is that... yes, there are plenty more guns that -can- be
used for AA... as in, can go above angle 30 and can load AA or AAC shells.

Only a sadist would choose those guns, though, seeing as they are generally ineffectual
and cannot provide reliable AA coverage. I've included the guns that can provide the best
AA coverage in my opinion (and yes, it is my opinion, backed though it may be by general
consensus), and give passing mention to AA guns that could provide passable, if spotty cover.

Any gun that I haven't mentioned is one that I pretty much consider sub-par for AA. Any
ship that I haven't mentioned is one that I pretty much consider sub-par for AA. Someone
might be able to do well with a gunset and ship that I find sub-par, but I guarantee that
if you put them in a setup outlined here, he or she will do even better. Unlike the USN
or KM, the RN really doesn't have much choice when it comes to effective AA, and that's
just how the cookie crumbles =/

While he did not include the other UK AA guns, this could be justified based on the
range
and plane takedown power of those guns.

Personally, I mount one of my BB1 BOs on the Emerald, add 2 lvl 108 BVE Acc
gunners and
let her rip. I can make a decent amount of creds if my computer would stop hanging
when I
see a nice cluster of bombers. O.o

Also, using Surrey, County for AAing is just wrong. Those ships are meant to HA
effectively, not be an AA ship. Most often I see set-ups like that in Bismarck but those
are just for fun. All the guys using those always return to the Emerald, Dunk or
Furious
when they wish to go for serious UK AA.

Cheers and good luck.

Sorry no the concerns are not met. However I believe the fault there is mine as
I think how I worded my post has made you misunderstand. I just meant the same
as boydyma that the guide should give an unbiased view on every gun and ship that
can be used in anti-air warfare within the Royal Navy and the guide should not just
say use the 5.25 inch guns and the Emerald/Dido or else do not go with anti-air
weapons at all.

I would give an mention on each weapon giving advantages and disadvantages.
Now that does not need to be much and does not need an individual one about
each gun variant. I mean as an example you can combine the 2 x 4 inch Mark XVI's
various variants such as the D's or A's and just give an mention in it about that it
includes an D and A variants. Also you could combine various Marks to condense it
even more such as all the single 4.7 inchers just include the various Marks within
parentheses.

I would then give then mentions on the various ships that are available (from the
lowliest destroyer up to the mightiest battleship) and what can be suitable anti-air
armaments on the main mounts and the secondary mounts. As some wanting to
view this guide I assume would not just be going the anti-air role they might just be
an anti-submarine or anti-surface ship wanting an main armament or secondary
armament that can help against air attack should they need to.

Well do it however you want as its your guide but I would just say don't restrict it to
just the 5.25 and 2 Pounders and Dido and Emerald.

Glad the ?'s are gone though those really annoyed me. :D

Thought I'd throw up confirmation on the County Speeds. This pick is full crew of lvl
46-49s with lvl 80 Reload Gunners. If you get above 20 bulge you loose 2 to your OH, so
not much armor will loose good ammount of speed. 90 bulge puts your at 28/42...

New version is up - I'm not sure if I covered all your concerns, tipsypo (and I just
realized I forgot your name in the acknowledgements >_<) but there it is.

At least I caught all those infuriating question marks this time.

And thanks again for the sticky, lanthanide =)

Having not used any other guns on my HMS.Onslaught and HMS.Quadrant and
HMS.Euryalus than the single QF 4.7 inch Mark XII and twin RP10 5.25 inch Mark I in
an long while seeing as these are the historical main armaments on those ships I
couldn't remember how any other armaments fared in the anti air role.

Just to rediscover how some other guns are I just now used those single QF 4 inch
Mark V and twin QF 4 inch Mark XVI guns (that many historical destroyers fell back
upon as I've mentioned already) on HMS.Onslaught. Now the single QF 4 inch Mark V
did not seem very usefull at all. Probrably just because I only had four. Was similar
to using the single QF 4.7 inch Mark XII as I normally do on HMS.Onslaught, enabling
you to only destroy some scouts with an single aimed salvo and damage anything
else.

Now those twin QF 4 inch Mark XVI guns are so not worthless to warrant the words
that should you not be able to equip 5.25 inchers or 2 pounders that you should
screw anti air gunnery and just stay in Blitzkriegs or go ASW. I found them to be
rather usefull as though they were an destroyers version of an RP10 5.25 inch Mark
I.

I agree with others that this guide should also include the various other armaments
and vessels and also not just with the point in being an "aa whore" but also as to
those wanting an secondary armament. Otherwise you might as well just call the
guide "His Majesty's Anti-Aircraft Cruiser Guide".

Great guide and responses. I never though about using a County for AA in GBs. Switch
over to it and got faster speeds and an extra slot for leveling crew compared to the
Emerald. Yes only 2/3 scouts (its early and I don't want to sign on to be sure), but I
can OH the county without any engi's to 48 knots with full crew. Yes I lose a gun in the
R slot but the added speed and more dp means I survive longer and I can get into position
the better help the BB I'm cruising with. I can still snipe a scout in one volley with
the County. Plus, it also gives me more space for some HE shells for when that ss surfaces.

Having going back and forth between the two ships, I would agree with you and say it would
be based upon crew level. Lvl 12-30 crew, I'd probably use Emerald, but 40+ I definitely
like the County.
