mailman
Welcome to the Test Server Discussion area where we hope you will engage and
assist in testing of game content for the good of the community as a whole. As you
may have already read in other threads this is the start of a new programme of
testing for NFNA and we are very keen to make it productive, informative and as
inclusive as possible.

In addition to the normal posting rules as per General Discussion, the following
applies to the Testing Area:

A. We encourage free discussion about test results and progress.
B. We encourage the use of screenshots to support evidence and discussion.
C. Players need to focus on current tests ONLY to avoid any 'noise' and distractions
on to other things they may like testing in future. Non-testing discussion, spam,
flames or anything deemed inappropriate will be removed without recourse to the
person making the post/thread.
D. Mailman, the Head Moderator and one player selected from the current core team
will maintain an oversight of the ideas and discussion on the Testing forum and will
provide any official responses that may be required. This team will also coordinate
official recommendations from testing up to SDE. As such the player rep is someone
that players can speak to if they do not want to use the forums or speak to Mailman
or the Head Moderator.
E. Mailman or the Head Moderator will pin and unpin threads if they are considered of
significant importance at the time.

---------------------------------------------

The testserver client can be found in the download section, together with the manual
patch.. and believe me, you want to use the manual patch.... auto-patching takes
about 2 hours.

To download and use the testserver client, do the following:

1. Download the client archive file (nfna_dev_client.zip) and save it somewhere.
2. Extract the files from the archive file. Windows Vista and 7 support this, with XP
you'll need to use a program like winzip or winrar (which are free programs). Extract
the files to a folder of your choice (e.g. c:\NFNA_test\ ). Do NOT put them in your main
NF folder.
3. Also download the Testserver manual patch. Extract the files into the same folder
as in step 2. You may need to confirm overwriting files.
4. In the folder where you extracted the files should be a file called Navyfield.exe
Double click this to run the client.

The accounts are ready, but the sailor classing does not yet work as planned.

Account information is as follows:

test101 to test199

i. Any player who wants to participate in testing will be able to access these
accounts (password will be the same for all = iwanttotest (cannot be changed)
ii. First come first served for each testing session. If you get the account already
logged in?suggest jumping up or down a random number of accounts and trying
again
iii. A spread of levelled Sailors will be available on each account and will be
RESET in every week. These sailors will need allocating nations and classes ahead
of testing, so there will be a setup time in the programme as well. And yes the
nation/class restrictions of normal servers are not present on the test server so you
can set them as needed for the declared test.

Troubleshooting:
------Crashing after start
I heard a possible fix to this is enabling DEP (Data Execution Prevention) when using
Windows XP

------Hackshield relating issues
-Do not run 3rd party programs like NF fixer (or something similar)
-Do not use custom sprites in the testserver client
-Try running the Navyfield.exe with administrator privileges (was not needed for me
though)

Tip by Skssoldier:
To get past the crash and to the loading screen:
Find where you extracted the navyFIELD client for the Test server. Right click, go to
properties. Disable Visual Themes and Desktop Composition

Then:
Control Panel>
System and Security>
System>
Advanced system settings>
Data Execution Prevention>
Add NavyFIELD(Test Server client) and HSUpdater (This is in HShield [of the folders
you extracted with the client])

"I know it is easy to blame me, but get your facts straight... I am not the one who decides
on that and I am not the one who has the knowledge about that either."

you are the contactperson between the testers and the ones who decide what goes to SDE and
what not. You are the 1st face in to customer in that case, that you arent informed is
something you need to complain to the men behind but it is in no way a valid argument vs
the customer.

As soon as something is touching security it is the duty to inform the others, and not
wait if they might find out or not. Securityinformation can not be seen as obligation to
be performed at the place of business of the debtor.

Hey,

I know it is easy to blame me, but get your facts straight... I am not the one who decides
on that and I am not the one who has the knowledge about that either.

Thank you mailman (and SDE/TNF) for informing those people who voluntered to test, that
they will get a rootkit installed, without any notice or without even getting informed,
that there is a 3rd party product installed with that.

Thank you very much.

And BTW, I havent found any hint in the EULA that SDE is installing a 3rd party product
that acts like a virus and is a rootkit. Care to comment on that?

^^@Jeffrey,
did you follow this tip about deleting the Main.dll and replacing it with your old main.dll?
The main.dll did not change between the two MAIN client download (before the SN update and
after). If you take your main.dll from the old client and replace it into the new client,
you should be able to successfully update and play.

edit: oh nvm :) seems you fixed it while i was writing this lol
