Unless you super-vet them, Elites won't really make a huge difference over +12's. I crunched the numbers myself, going +12 BVE over +11 BVE gives you greater returns than going Elite BVE over +12 BVE.
Regular BVE, the difference at level 120 is literally less than 200k true ability, which amounts to 1% of overheat ratio (which diminishes with increasing Engy count) and less than two seconds of overheat time. If you were too lazy to roll a +12 instead of shelling out cash for an Elite, that's well and good, but there's also the fact that Elites give less Repair and Restore as well.
If you super-vet an Elite, the difference is more significant, but it's still only marginally better than what you get with SS class. There's a grand total of one or two extra ship-engine combinations that you can speed-cap with one Engy, but there'd really be no point in doing that since you'd have less overheat time than someone with multiple inferior-performing Engys, and overall Repair is capped anyhow; not that it'd be wise to be doing stuff that would require that much Repair in a KM ship anyhow.
-e- Also, fixed a mistake in the Engy classings section. I crunched the numbers for S class with 150 vets, not 130, but I copied over most of the text from my USN guide, for which the S class had 130. So, the S class that you guys have is somewhat more high- performing than the one for USN, national bonuses notwithstanding.
