I do this often... Maybe you should list what the cvs were before you talk about balance.

Even numbers =/= balance

Host can start whenever they want. It certainly doesn't require a post here. Also 6 cvs may split 4 and 2 so going with 5 might make it fairer. Also what if 1 had crashed and it ended up 2 vs 2 would the host be a genius?

Hosts need to start earlier lets make waitfield playfield.

and uneven cv doesnt mean nothing, it depends on wich cvs are.... 

Getting hosts that start with 2 CV is coming all too common.

I used the Italian CV1 a couple of days back and the host started the room with me vs a CV4 !!!!

The change to 6 CV in a room from 8 means that games start faster.

But small CVs are not seen as much now as the chances you are up against 3 level 4+ CVs and a CV 1/2/3 is just a team liability (i.e. you loose) When we HAD 8 Cvs starting in a room (I know it was SLOW) the auto balance could sort things better. Now the auto fudge is always adding the advantage to B as it has not been changed to account for lower numbers (e.g. occationally mix the split up?)

So, as always we need good hosts to INSPECT what ships are in a room before closing early to please the "go" brigade. But good hosts are getting rare as rocking horse doo-doo

No big deal.

Here's why:

1) One or both team will probably lose 1-5 players each side within 1 minute due to game crash, negating any balance whatsoever.

2) Sometimes the CVs are so unbalanced, it helps to give an extra low level CV to the weak team.

3) I'd rather start with an imbalance than wait another 5 minutes. 

4) It's all about the BBs anyway!  CVs are just dumb support ships and SS are evil incarnate  that should be banned, while CA/CLs and DDs/FFs are just little targets to be obliterated in due time. 

5) And we still have IJN CL/CA/BB/SS class of ships with F/A/B planes that are exempt from the CV splits.

6) The team with only 2 CVs usually has the higher level CVs that can quickly dispatch lower level planes. 

In most games where I was on the short side of an uneven split, we won. 


So, what's the big deal?

Now if you really cared about game balance, you'd pay more attention to the subs being split.   A high level submarine has significantly more impact on the game's outcome than CV.  You'd be wiser to wait until the subs balance, but  then, nothing is more powerful than the battleships anyway.

Really?  A new thread based on a game starting with 5 cvs...  We've officially hit rock bottom.

I agree with Ultra_Dog. Each game at least 3-5 people drop within the first 30 seconds, honestly I dont even care about the numbers anymore. You could even start with 17 BBs and 3 CVs and I wont give a damn.

And when you have 9 bbs all going north (including 5 bb5) just to avoid the bb6 south, leaving a lone aaing bb1 south balance doesn't matter.
