  • Is the grind the only way?

    10. 07. 2012 22:43

Godfire69

So the title is basically my question.

I currently have a lvl 75 SN Izmail line BB crew, and lvl 63 SN CV crew, and a lvl 69 MN Lyon line BB crew. This is my third acount with which I am attempting to suffer through the grind to actually having fun again, yet the only time where I have excellent crews.

So what am I supposed to do in a BB1 or a BB2 or a CV1/2? All that I can play now is Great Battle. You know who else plays Great Battles? All of the 3/4-bar BB 4's, 5's, 6's and the 3/4-bar CV 4's, 5's, and 6's. We are food.

All the advice for BB 1's and 2's I could find on the forums included "AA scouts", "Stay behind the front lines" (obviously out of your range and hopefully out of the enemy's range), "If you see an enemy BB try and rush in and ninja them and get out.", and "shoot at any DD's/CL's that rush." That's the gist of the advice. And once you finally get to a Battleship, who in the world want's to sit back, AA planes, and wait for small ships (who will get destroyed by the bigger more accurate ships most likely before you can do anything) or for the so-called possibility to "ninja" blind enemies and get wasted by high level ships?

It isn't fun.  This is not merely my opinion, but this is the opinion of my friends who play too. There is even a thread in the tips and tactics section of the forum where someone listed all the things he does to make the grind more bearable. But why in the world does their have to be a grind? Why can't their be a game mode where BB/CV 1's and 2's (maybe 3's) can actually pose a challenge for one another and not merely be cannon fodder?

Playing Blitzkrieg is always fun, and not just because of all "noobs who rush." It is fun because everyone has an opportunity to do damage and to benefit their team. Yes, you can find some people who just destroy everyone else in Blitzkrieg with their EBVE crews, but for the most part, those players are few.

I just want to know if there is anything else that can be done to make this leveling process less of a grind. I don't think it is fair that all lower level players have to be completely outranged and outgunned by all of the higher level players, we have no other choice of game mode.

I am posting this in the general discussion because I just want to hear people's opinions. I am not trying to make a formal suggestion for a new game mode at this time (which I didn't find any results on this anyways because it is hard to find the correct words to use in a search bar). I am not looking for tips and tactics, because they only do so much.

There is already a gamemode for BB123. No one plays it because GB gains you more exp. This is what you get for having a level based game where everyone is in the same room.

in my opinion a BB1-2 can be good fun in GBs, but it is indeed the hardest time in a BB (with PBB or Bb3 the world looks different). It depends mostly on what is exactly in the room, a 20/6 split without many smaller ships is very hard, the only thing you actually can do is waiting for a good moment to get some attack (crippled BBs, protecting own crippled BBs and so on).

But, as soon as there are smaller vessels, CAs, CLs and DDs you have a job: Kill them! Usually bigger BBs concentrate on the other bigger BBs, but those smaller ships provide sight for their team, or do ASW or AA. Your job: Kill Them! When you stay close to your own BBs, mostly the other BBs target the bigger ships first, your chance for attack....basically thats said many times in the forums, but i dont see it often in GBs. Patience and smart playing is needed. Personally i grinded in CAs quite a longer time since its easier to get in rooms=fastebattles=shorter grind.

And keep in mind, once you reach BB4/5 stage you will be in those ships a very long time. BB1-3 is a really fast grind, so dont worry about it too much. And, a ship will be good, once youre crew reached the lvl for the next ship....

if you want to skip the grind:

just pick a BO and 2 gunners and do AA (when nation allows) or HH (when can't go AA ship) CL-CA-PCA.

Instead of regular supports for any CV/BB just lvl up some engys... when they are lvl 65 sell them. Repeat the procedure maybe 2 or 3 times. When youre' done you'll have a decent medium-high lvl BO and a nice pair of gunners (at least for seccondary armament) buy the sailors u need at the best lvl you can get (maybe something arround 70's to 80's)

this way you'll scape most of the grind, at least BB1 and most of the BB2 stage (for CV you will be able to buy something arround T3 when fighters start to be fighters)

OR:

put all of your crew (including powerlvling BO) above KM/RM AA ships, you'll end up with your entire crew at lvl 65 right after molke. it will not "skip" your entire grind, but it shure helps to dodge the BB1 lame-stage

final advice if you DO gind from the very first to the very last ship:

- CV1 and CV2 can only be used to BW, as they won't change much the balance of the team you will be doing more help bombing than using locals/T1. at CV3 you should consider using T2 and Scoutwhore, maybe doing something like 1 or 2 k of airplanes. this will give you a lot of xperience in micromanage.

- SS1 its quite anoying and SS2 can't play anything good but defense. a PCA of most nations will give you just about SS3 when things start looking good. just do that

- BB1 are trash for all nations, but BB2 are quite fun, with a decent crew you can be at about 600-700 SD at lvl 70. Besides nobody really cares what BB2 are doing in battle, so  nobody will set you as primary target. Using that at your advantage you can put up 30-40k damage battles... if you do that you can have your fun while grinding

Basically it's all said already.

You need to play carefull, be smart and well aware of what is going on.

It's not something related to low level BBs: all BBs must do so in order to survive "most" battles (some battles are screwed at start due to split and crashes etc...).

As a low level BB you suffer more from poor crew than poor ship. In fact skilled players with good crew are a danger even in a BB2. I have monty grade crew now and I still got my Colorado in port: long time I don't take it for a ride, I had Iowa grade crew probably, but I remember I did something like 160k in it.
