Dude idk wth your smokeing but it must be making you see things O_O. The SY lvl 100 guns are one of the most powerfulest guns in the game. Heck they can sometimes one shot bb5's sometimes. You wanna play with weak guns. Play the H44 then you will understand that the H44 has the weakest of the bb5 guns -_-. H44 shells I do belive only do 1200. One of the main reasons the h44 is so weak is due to it can do more then angle 37. Which means all our shells get bounced!! Your lucky that the SY's lvl 100 guns can out range some bb6's guns. (IF PLAYED RIGHT). Btw for more info on the lvl 100 guns ask richardphat. He's one of the people that worked on the guns for all the nations i do belive....well at least KM :D.

Ur spread might not be too good at first with the SY, thus splashing a lot around the ship (and the splash of SY is not too great). However, ur spread will improve, and you will be able to do massive damage with these guns, as they are extremely powerful with their 45 angle;)

The IJN Nation, has a system built into the games code that stops the spread for them being block, as for the damage, they are great. If you it anything at the 45 angle with at least 45% of your shells then they know about it. I only just got the SY and I already the difference in hitting power.

OP you're wrong.
SY full salvo damage is 56K vs 53 k for the Yamato ( from memory), so total damage ( kinetic + HE) for 1 shell is a little higher for the SY.
Don't mix ammo ( AP+ HE shells) in 1 salvo. AP shells do at best 4500 damage, your HE a little over 6k.
Try to keep firing at or as near to your max range as possible. The more you go down in angle, the less damage a deck hit will do.
Hitting belt instead of deck at 45 degrees does a lot less damage, especially with AP ammo.

People, quit citing the HE number if you don't know what it means.

SY damage with the 100's is fantastic, as is penetration for the most part. 

The damage of a gun is not only determined by the HE damage of the shell. It is a mixture of angle, shell weight, HE damage, muzzle speed, caliber. 

The fact that one gun has more HE Damage than the other, doesn't mean they are stronger.
The SY is one of the powerfull BB5s in the game in terms of damage output. It is also able to penetrate armor like no other, thus not needing AP shells for the most part.

The spread on the other hand is not great, but workable with enough experts and vets in the gunners. A bad spread might make it seem weak because most shells will do splash damage, but once you land a good salvo on someone you will see the power of the ship. 

Screw the numbers, all you need to know is the result.

Lvl 100 guns aren`t weak, especially SY.
