Was a good ship, sad to see it go.

like her predecessor in WW2 she served in harms way and was highly decorated. sad day to see her gone, and more so that they cant preserve her as a museum to teach future generations.

The scrap value is far to much to be doing something like that.

if you read the article they have to punch holes in the side of the ship rendering it unfit for museum duty

Unfortunatly they cant save her as a museum. They essentally have to gut the ship out to remove the reactors and what would be left would be an empty hulk.
Also noticed this in the article "In February, the USS Abraham Lincoln will begin a four-year refueling complex overhaul in Newport News, Va., which will also take it out of rotation."
However thats not the case. Because the beaurocratic bone heads in DC cant get their crap together.

Also been reading elsewhere that members of congress are pushing a plan for the USS George Washington, that is up next for its RCOH after the Lincoln, to be decomissioned instead.
