hi, I read old threads about 0.2 deck reducing dive bomb dmg, does it reduce the dmg by half like 0.2belt does for torps?

Sure, why not, go with it. Or just lern2dodge.

I don't think .2 belt reduces torp damage by half...

i think 0.2 belt reduces torp damage by 35% not half.

How much belt do i need to reduce torp dmg by half?

and how much deck will reduce db dmg by half?

I don't believe that belt has a significant impact on torpedo damage as torpedos don't have an AP value.

However, HE shells and HE dive bombs all have an AP of 1, and adding 0.2 deck and belt increases armor in those sectors by 1... so you could assume that that is enough armor protection to sometimes bounce or negate HE shells and bombs.

That said, I don't know precise how that works and I'm sure that the AP value for shells is different in different circumstances, like the angle at which you hit a ship.

If you consider all this then the most common armor recommendation makes sense. 0.2 belt and deck and then as much bulge as you can fit without losing 1knt of speed would effectively give you some protection against everything, except AP damage and rocks :)

Wrong.

0.2 Belt does reduce torpedo damage by about 40%( from memory).
Search the old forum for 1 of my posts for the guide.

As for 0.2 deck, that does as much as 0 deck, they both bounce stuff once in a while due to the exceptional engine we're working with.

Torp damage reduction by belt can easily be tested and has been tested.  It does reduce torp damage.

0.5 belt reduced half.

0.2 reduced somewhere between 38 and 40%

Deck is pretty much all or nothing, you need a significant amount to do anything real.

Damage reduction from 0.2 deck would be a fraction of a 1 displacement.

Lets put it this way, in the L1, it takes 9.2 inches of deck armor to bounce shells. .2 isnt going to do much.
