It's awesome how many people still don't know this.

 

These are some tests made on our fleet long time ago.

 

SS1 ijn torps against a QV.

 

Values are very accurate since they are the mean of 5 taken values.

 

Torps were aimed very carefully to the exact center of the ship.

 

 

 

Test were made with 0, 0.1, 0.2,0.3, 0.4, 0.5, 1.0, 2.0, 3.0. 6.0, 12.0 and  24.0 on belt. The point where the half reduction starts is 0.2 belt. It show the % of damage taken from the torp versus the amount of belt put.

 

As you see, putting more than 0.2 belt will not have noticable effect. So, to all that people that put 1.0 belt, 3.0 belt or don't put belt at all just take a look on that graphic for see how belt works against torps.

 

So, the armor configuration for the 99% of ships in the game is 0.2 belt and the rest you can put without loosing speed, put it on bulge.

 

If you didn't know 0.2 belt reduce the damage of torps by half then see this other pic, from a test from emu long time ago too.

 

 

That means torps will make you maximum damage on the center of the ship, and more or less half of that damage in a extrem of the ship.

 

 

So, knowing both things you can reduce the damage taken from torps by 4.

 

Sure many people know this, but others, don't.

Your summary of Emu's test isn't 100% accurate imo, better would be to say that the further away a torpedo's impact point is from the centre of a ship the greater the damage reduction of the explosion. A torpedo that hits a long ship on the tip of the bow, will do less damage than a torpedo that hits the tip of the bow of a short ship.

Also a small addition: The damage reduction order .
Since there are several factors that determine what damage a torpedo ultimately does to a ship, knowing it might be a good thing.
I don't want to reprint my old screens here so ppl are going to have to take my word for it ( or look them up on the old forum).
When a torpedo hits the ship  the first thing that is checked is hit location and damage gets reduced the futher away from the middle the hit is. Next the reduction by bulge is applied and if the torpedo overcomes the bulge the remaining damage gets reduced by belt.

0.2 deck gives you nothing. You need very high amounts of deck for bouncing bombs. Neither there is a "magical" value that gives you a "magical" reduction like it happens with the 0.2 belt and the torps.

Good to know. I wonder what the game code reasoning behind the .2 belt giving you a reduction in torp damage. It makes me wonder if it's because .2 gives you 1 AP defense and it somehow reduces the torp damage because of that

today i used .2 belt because i wanted to try this.. one cv torped me like there was no tomorrow and i didnt sink.. i think it works

0.2 belt dont work for cv

depent to  structural strength and ship type.Higly advice for up to bb4...
