It has the most attackpower of all ships in this game, capable of oneshotting almost every ship. So make use of that instead of it's range.

Monty is the type of ship that, if you are a skilled player, will beat a BB6... It is truely one of the best BB's in NF even among BB6's... at least in my opinion :)

The monty may have short range but it fires nuclear ballistic missles, you get in range you fire and fall back a bit if the shells float good and the other guy does not pay attention then boom bye bye goes the enemy.

With the triples you have a 70-71k salvo the highest of any bb save for the charly, the monty is a very fun and good BB5 even with shorter range it packs a massive punch if you let it wander in.

You will feel that frustration if you try to line fight or rush the enemy. Have them chase you and feel the range boost of the 45 degs monster. 

yea, range kinda hurts sometimes. i have h44, and the monty range is basically the same as h39 broadside, but if you're willing to sacrifice most of your bulge for speed. the 40 knots can be very worth it. and once your gunners get to about 110 or so, you'll notice that the monty becomes one of the funnest ships to use
that's how it worked for me, once i hit 110, i noticed my monty's short range isn't important. 

just don't rush people until you're completely confident with the ship.

be patient. most people will rush you, that's where you can easily 1 shoot and turn at the same time for "slingshot". (more useful for not getting hit yourself.) but don't just run. turn back right away. and get the next guy.
