  • CV noob Crew Question

Just a quick question...

I'm a low level USN player (atlanta now) and want to see how I can go about the whole CV thing.

I've done a lot of research and have seen a lot of different ideas on how a carrier crew should be set up.
There is a lot of conflicting information and I'm pretty confused...

Is there a simple, no non-sense way to deciding on a set up?

I want to have more fighter's then bombers and want to be able to have another BO I can use on my other ships.

Can a CV BO only be used on CV?

I haven't started leveling up my pilots yet so I can go any direction.

Thanks for any advice

P.S Hope I put this in the right section...

A CV BO can ONLY be used on premium ships and event ships of that respected nation, as well as any ship you choose before that.

Will not be able to use anything on the brooklyn line to make it simple.

Fighters are a good option to have. Always keep in pairs. 4 ft, 2 DB, 2 TB. 2 ft, 4 DB, 4 TB. Even numbers, don't mix 3 Ft, 5 DB, 1 TB because you will have a time when you wanna launch more fighters and you only have 1 SQ left.

Additionally, elite fighters are the way to go for USN. Add in an elite fighter turned seaman and you're on the path to air domination.

You can use the BO for PCA, PBB, etc. As long as they pass lvl requirements.

USN has best fighters. I've always run more ftrs than bombers. Even go a lot of matches without using bombers cause if I use em, theres no vision and the screaming bbs annoy the f outta me for it. Plus I like the creds it rakes in

Bombers. USN has low dmg but fast moving dive bombers. Torp bombers are poor but required to use to get to the DBs (thats if you're raising the crew yourself.) and TB is a skill you should learn when you have to use em.

And I usually have 1 or 2 more ftr pilots than bomber pilots. Just so when I launch the first wave, I can ready the second as the first is moving towards other ships.

And remember: dont use 8 planes per pilot. easier to control if you have around 4-5 and quicker to launch em.

Ok thanks...

I'll start raising another BO. I've heard that the best way to do this is keep him neutral for a long time until he hits the right level? Not sure.

I think I'll go 4 fighters 2 bombers to start then....

Thanks for the advice...

Thanks for the advice...

Neutral and unspecialised national sailors get a 40% exp bonus, BOs and gunners get a 20% bonus, so yes, unclassed is faster.

Level the full 12 man CV6 crew from the beginning. Considering the USNs fighter capability I would consider a 'balanced' USN CV to have 6 fighters and 2 bombers.

Throw in a seaman, 2 gunners for HH/AA or an engineer and repairer or a sonarman. Hell, maybe even just forget the T slots and go for 8 pilots, a seaman and a BO. But you want to be leveling 8 pilots, not 6. And make sure you class your bombers to DBs when you get the opportunity, you won't want to class them to TBs if you can help it.

I also don't recommend classing your pilots beyond their basic promotion (so don't class them to ace fighter or ace dive bomber). While this might not seem like a helpful thing to do, it actually does allow pilots to reach a higher maximum potential than if they were properly classed. Stupid, I know.

A thread on the subject (which involves alot of maths) can be found if you would like more details on why not to promote your pilots;

Good luck.

Thanks a ton for all the advice so far. I think that i'll be able to use my gunners from my BB line so I'm just going to prepare an extra BO, pilots (6 ftrs, 2 tb/db) and a seaman.

One last question...

What should be looking to roll for pilts. I know the aircraft stat does not matter but are 11's for fighter/bomber acceptable or do I need to get 12's?

Thanks,
peder5

Anything 10 or below you should just dismiss.

11s. Can use em but I'd rather sell to get creds for +12s or elites.

11 aircraft but +12 in either ftr or bomber. 12/12 is even better

Only 12s to be effective. If possible get elites

Ok, I've started on some 11's but I'll re-do... No problem...

How do I sell my 11's. How much should I ask?

Thanks

Fighters only need the fighter stat. Bombers only need the bomber stat. Aircraft is for recon.

So, whatever the highest of that you can get is. Preferably all +12 if youre up for spending a few hours rolling or a few mil buying. +11s wouldn't sell for very much. You can use the trade window from the dock to sell them but I honestly can't imagine many people paying more than a few hundred thousand for them.

Best pilots are elites, theyre also easiest to get, if you can afford them.

I think there is a big differance in high lvl cv play and low lvl cv play. Some suggestions may be difficult to lvl up. But when you do, you will be grateful you did.
Personally I beleave scout pilots are best for scouting enemy ships with that ftrs. But with anything less than lvl 120 scouts this is going to be tuff. But with 120's its a piece of cake. The main reason I say this is the scouts have 3 to 4 times as much fuel as the ftrs do. I do not like getting locked into doing just 1 thing. (Replaceing ftrs with new ftrs cause thier fuel is to low) Bye useing scouts I can do other things befides running ftrs too the front line.
My ftr pilots I like to keep close to me killing DB/TB/scouts waiting until I get my bombers rdy to escort them with.
Bombers I prefer the TB's mainly because I find them a lot more fun. But I do beleave they are more versitel than DB. For one ill have my scouts lay a mine field then TB a ship that lost his bulg in it. Or use the TB to scare him into my mine fields, or use my TB to scare him to turn into my BB's. You cant do stuff like this with DB its drop and forget. But DB average more xp than TB and probly average more attack. But the fun factor is worth it for me, not to mention how well my TB work with a friendly sub or kita kami.
As for the # of pilots I like to run is 2lvl120 scouts 2 ftrs 4 TB

As for on the ship if its my PCV wich is what I mainly run I like:
A engy as my BO for overheat
Seaman in front T slot.seaman gives desent repair too
AA gunner in rear T slot with PHH set up
And a sonarman up top with pilots
