  • About classing fighters to squad leader..

In the past before the cv patch came along i always heard to not class to sq leader because you would lose durability. I know bomber ability no longer has an effect on this.

My ace ftrs are nearing lvl 90, they have 120 vets on them and experts are always full, so my question is..

Currently are there any negative effects to classing correctly on time or slightly late?

There are negative effects to classing them beyond basic fighter, full stop. That includes the promotion to Ace.

Once they are fighters, do not promote them. The increase in growth does not justify the negative impact on manpower growth. A fighter can only reach the highest possible potential ability when not classed beyond its basic pilot promotion.

Not saying the fighters wont be competitive, national bonuses and fighter aircraft quality are both important factors too. But some of that potential is lost when they are promoted.

It is not absolute that classing to fighter only is better. There are certain situations that will be better to class as Ace or even squad leader. As a general rule of thumb Fighter only class has the highest potential ability but requires 242 vets to take advantage of the full potential.

"fighter is better from 0 to 125 vets and from 242 vets to 260

ace is better from 125 to 236 vets

squad leader is better then fighter but never ace from 189 to 218 vets"

So to sum it up, for normal non supervet fighters Ace class is superior though if in the back of your mind you think you want to throw money in a toilet and vetcap them leave them as fighter only. Since it appears you plan to keep a more conservative vet count you were spot on with your classing. Toss on atleast 10 vets to each pilot and you will be in that optimal range for ace fighter.

If you have anymore questions feel free to drop me a PM. I can even run through the math with you to show you how everything works.

Please do explain how/why this is?  I don't understand what they lose when classing up beyond regular fighter.

Does this also go for hero sailors?
I don't plan on getting more then 200 vets so I class from special force to fighter at level 40 and then to ace on time?

The search function would have yielded the answer for the last two posters.

The classing recommendation is also for hero sailors. Why? Because with each classing beyond fighter (at lvl 40), your crew growth will not increase (as is the case for all other sailor types), but DECREASE (fighter +5, ace +4, sqd ldr +3 crew per level). So even if your displayed ability bonus goes up with further classings, the total ability - displayed ability multiplied by (vets + experts) - will only increase more slowly, depending on the number of vets you have.

So be sure never to class sqd ldr. Whether to class ace or not, see above (no. of vets).

So why did NF not correct this to make it worth lvling to SQ Leader or just cross that off and not even have that option?

No idea.

But this shows that knowledge is everything in this game. There are quite a number of other sailors where simple ("straightforward") thinking does not work: sonarmen, IJN AA gunners, UK main gunners - "knowledge is power"...
I like this system's complexity and the possibilities it offers as sailor development isn't completely straightforward. If you want simplicity, go play WoT...

Sq Leader was better. Back to the old day, vet will die. So people don't super vet fighter.
Also, carrier get 2 repair in R slot since they don't need HH, nor sonar for the 9th support slot.

It is a serious business to get as mcuh repair ability from pilot as you can now.

An elite 2nd sonarman automatically reach ability cap(surfaced or underwater), so don't class to 1st sonarman, just an analogy to fighter sq leader.

Should we class em to rookie or just on level 40 and leave them like this ?

rookie>fighter or keep em on special to 40 and then fighter ?
