  • At full speed, my FF shouldn't be taking 25% damage from its own depth-charges

My ship is traveling at 45kts, and even accelerating to 60kts after thew drop, yet I routinly take signifacnt damage from my own DCs...easiky 25% or more of my durability.  Its actually impossible to avoid damage at 45kts...45kts!

At this point, I might as well strap the explosive to my back and jump in after the sub myself...at least then I might get 72 virgins out of the deal.

At 45kts alone, I should be covering approx 125m before the 5 sec timer expires on the DC.  If Im accelerating to 60ts, one could wager I'd be 150m or more away...come on guys, give my little ship a chance.

At least give us timer presets, let us use the torp speed settings to adjust timer length.   It makes no sense a 45-60kt ship cant outrun its own DC detonations.

Maybe the whole idea of letting torps and DCs damage us well over a ship's length in distance away needs to be re-thought...its way to much of a "gimme" against new players/low level ships.  I cant count how many times Ive out ran/dodged a torp, only to have its detonation/self-destruct area affect kill/cripple me.

Some FF,CL and DD can launch DC from the stern areas.  You can earn or buy one of those.

Yep - BULGE!

Here is the trade-off if you choose to ASW from a FF:

No bulge = faster speed = more damage taken from explosion under surface.

Small amount of bulge = small reduction in speed = less damage taken from Depth Charges or related explosion under surface.

Moderate amount of bulge = reduction of top speed by roughly 1/3 = minimal amount of damage (if any) taken from explosion under surface.

Excessive bulge = speed reduced by roughly 3/5ths = impervious to damage from depth charges and related underwater explosion.

And there you are!

You have to choose how much bulge you are willing to apply at the sacrifice of speed and mobility.

Are you running an FF-Y ?  It's the best Depth charge delivery vessel.  Fast, maneuverable, 4 depth charge racks, very tight turning, but cannot take any damage that drops you out of OH ability.  You're doomed then.

The rear DC racks drop clean when you pull away with little/no damage.  The side racks are the problems, especially if you are in a turn, which reduces your distance from the splash radius of the Depth Charge.

By the speed he is going it's most likely a FF02.  Because the DC launchers are on the bow it makes it more difficult to outrun.  Also the DC have a wide explosion range (ask any sub player).  At the minimum you want to add about 0.3 belt and 4-5 bulge to reduce the damage taken.  You can add more but it would slow you down.  The best way to avoid damage would be to make sure you have full OH when dropping the DC and probably turn in the process of dropping them and sail away with OH instead of sailing through them.

depth charge AOE needs to be reduced

One of these replies is, well, totally predictable and ignorant.

DC "hitbox" - for lack of a proper term - is far too large.

You shouldn't be OHing in an FF if you're doing ASW. Just sayin'.
