I've seen players who smokes whenever the cool-down is ready (about 10 smokes per game) and yet he can't make damage without using smoke. That is about $0.6 per game. 20 games per day means $12 donated to SDE per day.
I believe that's why most people hate smokers - it's more of a symbol of SDE's Pay-to-win model rather than something that really helpes improve player skills. And it's not like burning experts for vets which is a once-and-for-all investment.
Btw, if smoke is a valid tactic, then why will there be penalties for using it in official competitions?
Make smoke free so everyone can use it (make it last shorter, or make the cool-down longer, or whatever), then there'll be no smoke haters.
