Basicly I'm sick and tired of this not being done, Plus I put some thought down into actual keys to be used, based on the same priciples other gaming companies use when determining best keys for each in-game command.

Suggestion:
Change the controls of speed control to the following setup:

Holding down F or V would repeat command once per 500 ms.
Selection of any other key while holding F or V or both F and V would immediently end command cycle.

After 3 seconds, this would increase to every 100 ms.

Single Tap Changes:
F: Add speed, 1 knot.
Shift-F: Set speed: Maximum Overheat.
Alt-F: Set speed: Maximum Cruise.
V: Subtract speed, 1 knot.
Shift-V: Set speed: Maximum Reverse.
Alt-V: Set speed: Maximum Cruise .
F+V: Set speed: 0 knots.

Reasoning:
This has ignored for way too long.
There is known values in the code that WILL allow what I have listed to be programmed. Heck, if SDE gave me the speed control section of the code, I'd do it for them...

Alt-F and Alt-V Do the same thing for a reason:
People are used to holding F to get moving at the start of battle. Hence Alt-F at start for cruise or Shift-F for maximum overheat.
People are used to holding/tapping V to get down to cruise speed from maximum OH. Hence the similarity of having a V based command as well, as players are used to V slowing down.

I wanted F+V to be 0 knots, simple because imagine your driving a boat. To slow a boat to a stop quickly, you apply controlled opposite directional power. Hence for it to work multi-directonally, forward or backwards. F+V made the most sense as the key command to use for stopping. As well as being close together since anytime your worried about stopping is normally an emergency to avoid something, where as you'd normally kick into cruise or maximum overheat when you have time to plan out when to do so.

I felt the need for a maximum reverse command (Not in the other speed threads) for the fact I have personally dodged easily millions of torpedos over theyears by quick turns while going into full reverse and back to maximum overheat.

Side Note:

If this gets enough feedback, I will personally hire an Korean Translator, Call SDE and have them 'politely' yell for this to be done ;)

Agreed.

Read FLF forums, it looks like they are putting something related with this very soon.

I'm aware, I've already asked into it, and I'm not 100% with the controls they plan to use, as I see the possibility for easy glitches from it. (Such as it not registering (picking up) the direct-to commands as intended)

These controls should be easier to code and less likely to have unexpected glitches.

As a former Robotics World Championship programmer. Having programmed the control layouts of 2 robots that did make it to their respective world champship venues. I am quite confident SDE could code the controls I listed. I wouldn't risk what they have planned based on how previous code changes have been like.

This layout allows people to continue to use the old method (With more accuracy) as well as new direct-to keys which benefits both, as remember, disabled players with only one useable hand, or just missing fingers tend to program certain controls to their mouse buttons instead. Thus the importance of maintaining the old functionally while still updating it aswell to be more accurate. (The current system allows decimal speed values, hence the imfamous bug of losing OH when you appear to not be OHing.) As the code for OHing in general and the code for the OH display appear to round differently (Round @ 0.5 versus round down in all cases respectively, based on observation).

(Note, sorry for the "dumbing down" notes added into the post, I was writing a guide for low experiance readers for something else right before I posted this)

Full throttle without overheat (100%)?

If I want to go full throttle (100% - NOT Overheat), it's simple..just use the simple procedure below:

FFFF, VV, FF, VV, FF, VVV, F, V, V, F, V, F, V, FF, V, F, VV, FF, V, V, F, V, F, V, F, F, V...and then you have 100% throttle without overheat.

It only takes a few minutes, but you can get there eventually.

or you can just burn all your overheat down and wait until it builds back up.

Just lols at the "UP UP DOWN DOWN LEFT RIGHT LEFT RIGHT A B SELECT START" code.

Bump

Why? Cause the way they did it glitched as I was saying it was going to.

agreed... and probably would help my problem (if im the only one :D) who's having major delay in speed control cause I need to press F or V several times to resp.ond =.=

That is caused by packets containing speed control commands being lost between your computer and the server.

Happens from time to time.
