  • my pathping looks really bad, can I fix it?

The game is lagging so much for me that I cant play at all. I've had no problem like this in 8 or 9 years of playing the game. Here is my pathping. Can I do anything about this please?

You having any issues with other games? Websites loading slowly?

You have a 170 ms ping jump at a transfer hub. I'd contact your ISP about that.

I rang my isp about the bad ping at hop number 4 which is where the problem is. They said they can control the first 2 hops but thats all. They couldn't help me except to tell me how to do a ip resetlog which may have helped a little. They blamed the server. 


So back to my original question, how do i fix this?

Is anything or anyone able to change the route to the game server?

ISPs can change routing paths within their own infastructure.


I highly suspect hop 4 is your ISP's own switch. It shows up on both pathpings with no deviation until the tinet infastructure.

I rang my isp again.


The guy i spoke to went of to ask his supervisor about this bad switch. he came back and said he spoke with 3 supervisors who told him that they only control the first 2 switches, and that they have "open switches" whatever that means...?

what about the ping trace bounce between the level3 routers at hop 10 onwards?

30 hops is excessive.  When 20 of the hops are interface bounces on two routers?

Its because he tracert the IP incorrectly (Only 3 of the 4 sections)

The IP for hop 4 is registered as a Singapore address, but it's pretty obvious it is physiscally located in the USA (the difference between the ping for hop 3 and hop 4 shows that).

It is fairly unlikely that your ISP will be able to do anything about the routing on the other side of the world, but then again, they could change the provider they use for the trans-Pacific hop and use one that has better routing.

I would have thought Optus would be able to sort this out - it's not as if they are a back yard ISP...
