I've taken quite a break from NF, so long in fact that I apparently don't remember my old login info. Anyway, I wanted to come back to it but it won't even install on my computer. The InstallShield  Wizard thing comes up and the blue bar loads most of the way and then it gives me an error message:

An error [-5009 : 0x8002802b] has occured while running setup.

It then tells me to make sure I have finished any previous setup (what other setup steps?)and closed any applications currently open.

I never had an installation issue regarding NF before on my older PCs (they had Vista and Win 7.)

I don't use windows 8 very much so i can't speak from experience on it, but have you tried the usual things such as redownloading and retrying the install? Also make sure you have nothing running in the background (processes tab in the task manager works wonders for this, but dont touch the program if you dont know what it is) as stated by the error.

As for your question about setup steps, there really are none. The installer seems to be trolling you there, it installs itself by itself.

There are a few problems with Windows 8.1 and any older 32 bit application.


Try running the installer in Windows 7 compatibility Mode.
