  • To anyone with NF working on Win8.1, 64 Bits

I think that people who have a 32-bit version of Win8 would have an easier time running NF (which is a 32-bit app I believe). But if there's anyone out there who managed to get NF to work on Windows 8.1 with a 64-bit operating system, did you do anything special to get it to work? Or did you just get lucky?

Facts behind my situation:

- Placing NF in both Program Files, Program Files(x86), and My Documents
- Running in Windows 7, Windows XP, and Windows 98 compatibility modes (both with and without admin access)
- It may be important to note I cannot install older versions of DirectX. I have DX11 and that's it.
- The PC's hardware includes an AMD 10 quad-core with 2.1 GHz speed, 6GB RAM, and an integrated video adapter Radeon HD 8620G with about 750MB integrated and no dedicated memory.
- I had managed to succeed in getting the game to compile before by installing it on a Windows XP machine and copying it to this machine via a flash drive, but it ran at a very low framerate (compatibility modes and admin rights did not help either) and was virtually unplayable. (Minimizing the game would cause the graphics to disappear, never to return without restarting.)
- I also tried the Windows 7 Support Patch. No avail.

There is your problem, run 32 bits. 64 bits will cause your frames rate to stutter, crash more frequently.

Downgrade the OS to windows 98/2000 or XP.

I have 11 desktops in which I have install NF on about 14-15 installation (dual, triple boot). Should you ask me to dictate you what to do, 32 bit os and windows xp or to an extent 7.

I am telling you that, because NF really is horrid on newer hardware and OS. At least, it's from my result.

Playing on 32 bits version, drastically reduced your crash rate, nearly eliminates all frames stutter and you will enjoy the gameplay.

To add more information, the desktop (quad core) I am using now has 8 GB of ram and has 2 windows 7 on it. A version of 64 bits and 32 bits, 32 bits is better, smoother, crash less.

Should I use my dual core desktop, I can run the game without crashing for 2-3days.

I have no idea how mine works. I get full frame rate.

What I do differently?

I installed it in the C: drive directly. Then used an old HD with an old Vista OS as an external HD with NF installed on it connected via a USB 3.0 cable.

I launch the game from the external HD, but the game uses the files installed in my C: drive(I know this because I need to change the sprites in the C: for it to change in the game and the game continues to run smoothly even if I disconnect).

Another thing is I run both NavyFIELD.exe as administrator and disable high DPI settings and reduced the color to 16bit.

I seem to bypass whatever mechanism that lowers the frame rate.

I used to run NF on Windows 7 64-Bit. It crashed every now and then but it ran fine without me doing anything special to it.

So Sylver what you're basically doing is installing it using an older OS like I was, but running a shortcut from your external drive? And what do you mean by disabling high DPI settings? The color and admin access I think I can handle

I would say that this single option helped a lot.
Win7'64, had very laggy gameplay. Checked this - now it is a lot more fluid.

You can try to turn off DEP. (Data execution prevention)

Run NF in a XP virtual machine.
This allows you to keep win8 64bit and NF will be happy.
Takes some work thou.
Get either VirtualBox or Vmware Player.
VirtualBox has the most flexibility and is slightly faster.
Once you get one of those, install WinXP on a virtual machine then install NF on the XP VM and ur good to go.
