I also had this problem but I got mine to run without doing anything weird. I'll just list the things I've done to get it to work but I won't guarantee it will work in yours as I am not sure why mine works normally.
1) Remove compatibility mode. Don't use it.
2) Make sure you have your DEP settings on "Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only." DEP menu can be found by:
Step 1: Right click over my computer.
Step 2: Click on "Advanced system settings" on the left side.
Step 3: Click on the "Advanced" tab
Step 4: Under "Performance", click on "Settings".
Step 5: Click on the "Data Execution Prevention" tab
3) Disable DPI scaling for all programs.
To do that:
Step 1: Open Control Panel
Step 2: Click on "Appearance and Personalization "
Step 3: Click on "Display"
Step 4: Check the box in front of "Let me choose one scaling level for all my displays"
Step 5: Tap or click Apply.
Step 6: Choose either Sign out now or Sign out later to apply the new setting.
