What don't you like about playing CVs? remember that attacker is a CV1, so it's suppose to be bad. It will get better as you level. So it all depends on why you don't like playing CV.

As for BB, UK has the easiest BB, so playing UK BB wouldn't hurt either.

if your new to nf, bb is the first choice but since i seen you in game with your attacker already, just play with it,

you need 8 pilots, for balance one 4fp and 4 tb and support (1 seaman and res/rep) since ark royal or cv5 above will have extra support slot and gun slot for this support to be place

if you plan to go CV, pack locals and stay with the bigger ships. provide aircover for them from bombers and kill scouts that are scattered around. if you think you can, you can also shoot down fighters scouting.

just remember, rule of the thumb,

DO NOT CROSS WHATEVER YOU ARE ESCORTING. IT'S STUPID.

You need 8 pilots for your CV. Depending on what you want, you should have
8 fighter pilots(FW) or 6 fighter pilots and 2 bombers or 4fighter 4 bomber, or 8 bomber pilots (BW)

ok ill try make this simple as i can

cv = support ship

role = provides cover and eyes from enemy fighters and bombers
secondary role = bombing on opportunity targets.


your cv ideally should be set up with fighter heavy in mind.

mine is set up as such -

6 fighter pilots 2 torpedo pilots

75 fighter planes 26 torpedo planes.


i learnt early on that you cant bomb if the enemy have lots of fighters in the air, it kinda makes it difficult and if your always looseing your bombers it tend to make the cv play feel a bit crap. so fighters first bomers second.

also drop the rep or engy thoughts you wont need them, your cv will be at the back of the lines. if your being shot at by bb's then your team has already lost the battle.

instead train up a seaman with high stats in bombing and fighter and also try to get good stats in engineer.. the seaman will grant your pilots roughly 2-3% ability boost.. it makes a ton of diffrence.

dont think about armour or guns once you get your first uk cv that can fit guns you will see that the gunner level is incredibly low and the guns are incredibly crap so you cant start them fresh at that point, i use my bb reload gunners on my cv , that means i didnt train up any cv gunners.


i hate to say this but you have choose the most underpowered cv line there is. uk has probably the second worst fighters and the worst bombers. tb's are fine but useless as every one maxes bulge out at 255 so you will have to send around 5 waves in a cv1 just to make a dent. infact i dont think you will ever break through bulge with a cv 1 not enough torps and they are crap low level tb's good agaisnt say a bb1 maybe a bb2 anything else and your pissing in the wind.

your tb's will start to get good around the cv3.5 when you unlock t2 tb's these are not dead powerful but they are if im not mistaken the best tb's in the game well they used to be.

any way good luck and just persevere with it. i love playing my cv much much more than i love playing my uk bb which is incredibly lacking in range..

rather narrow mindset of having the CV only playing a "support" role of being eyes and ears for other ships.


here's the truth. you do with your CV what you wish with it.

TBs fare better than DBs in the UK (level 70 you're auto AA immune, every other nation is level 100). and locals are a good recomendation until you get to tier 2 fighters, possibly even tier 3 as you'll be seeing mostly tier 4 fighters around that even locals have a hard time against.

using locals, of course, means you'll be limited in your options for providing "eyes" to the rest of your team. don't worry about it until you get up into a higher level CV.

why? well, frankly, you're best suited as a different sort of "support" than what BB players "expect" out of you. use your bombers as you can for providing vision spotting for BB's (nevermind the fact it seems half of them couldn't hit the broad side of the hood on the same screen when they can see the target), and attack targets of opportunity as you see fit.

subs are a good target if you can hit them, or at least force them underwater early (less oxygen for them to stay down for long)

kita's are another good target.

take out AA ships (those pesky ones shooting at your planes) so that your team's planes have an easier time over the target

if you get a chance to take out a CV that's sitting there, like a nice big fat juicy target then all the better. make them think "defense" instead of "offense".

and use your locals for clearing out bombers, scouts, enemy fighter planes if you can.


with the CV1 you may find yourself playing in Blitz games more then GB games, learn to be active in your movements. you won't have any guns until your 4th CV at level 73. think and react like a DD or CL in how you dodge about (because you will get rushed). hone your bombing skills by selecting targets and how best to hit them as they weave and maneuver.

this will greatly help you out in GB games when you have enemy bombers looking for you, when you've got subs underfoot targetting you, or BBs that sneak into range and are looking to pound you flat in a couple of shots.

"situational awareness" is your best defense. use your mini radar map all the time to gauge where you are, who's coming at you. a lot of times you'll be in the midst of bombing a target, or chasing planes with your fighters, and a sub or some lucky DD will catch you off guard, or some bombers will hit you before you know it.

best advise though? have fun. ignore the veteran noobs when they chastise you and tell you how to play. it's your ship, if the BB drivers want to take off their skirts and panties and play spotter, let them go do it and leave you alone. :P
