As a CV player,

I find it a bit strange that Torpedo Bombers keep the automatic-lock on the target even though the ship is safely hidden under smoke unlike dive bombers who can no longer automaticly dive bomb once the target is hidden under smoke.

I propose that torpedo bombers, just like dive bombers, get their lock-on removed once a smoke shell is launched. Thus, the only way to torpedo bomb a ship is by manually doing it.

yes, because clearly people whom pop a smoke need even more of a leg up.

I propose that smoke is treated like a cloud... so that if an aircraft is directly above it, or if a friendly ship is very close, the smoke does not work.

The whole concept of a ship popping a smoke RIGHT BY an enemy... and one being able to see while the other cannot... ludicrous.

Functionally, the reason a lock-on from TBs would exist with or without a smoke is because it is locked on via radar, not visually.  This makes sense when TBs lock on to a sub, but it loses lock-on when the sub dives (and no sonar available) or when it crash dives.  That makes sense.  A dive bomber requires vision to bomb.  Smoke is a reasonable defense against DBs. Not so with TBs.

Even though the TB remains locked onto a smoke covered target, it does not mean the CV player knows exactly when to release the Torpedoes.
