Hi guys,

To me it seems weird that there is no general guide stickied here as how to play Aircraft carriers in general and regarding all kinds of textual harrasments ingame I wonder, why not?! :P

So maybe there is an old topic that we can recover, or put some effort in it with several people?

Arc.

Edit1:
Flagellant provided us with a thread from the old forums. It encorporates control mechanisms for your pilots, fight, fly and bombing tactics.
https://fm.en.navyfield.com/Community/Forum/Old/View.aspx?num=101313&searchtype=2&searchvalue=ayeaye&sort=6&category=D07&thread=20&page=1

By understanding basic mechanis of planes and using your aircraft carrier in general it is time to adapt this knowledge to a form that suits you best. It is time to pick yourself a nation.

Each nation has its own stats, sailor types and different sets of planes.
I will add more of this shortly.

General Rule #1:

It's all about the pilots.  The CV is just the launching platform, that gets better at each level. Maximize your pilots' ability, elite, boosted, vets, everything!

General Rule #2:

You are a support ship with attack capability.  Your primary mission is to support your team. That means being in communication with your other CVs and the BBs you have been assigned to cover, south or north.

General Rule #3:

Just because you have low level pilots doesn't mean you can't be an effective CV.  Use Locals for your first fighters, run them out of gas and send more of them until you don't have any more.  Protect your BBs is your primary responsibility. For your bombers, they'll get chewed up, but you can still launch torps.  Do it until you run out of bombers.

General Rule #4:

Yes, you are the responsible for ensuring vision for your BBs. Even though they have scouts, they are dumb and don't know how to use them.  You have to keep your fighters and bombers over enemy ships until they run out of gas.

General Rule #5:

It's just a game. Have fun and don't let anyone tell you what to do.

Point #1:
spot on.

Point #2:
I don't really believe a cv is a "support ship with attack capabilities." A aircraft carrier is a primary ship and can be used in many ways, it's primary roles is not support as it is up to the player how they wish to play their aircraft carrier.

Point #3:
This tactic isn't the best idea as a cv only has its planes to fight with. Yes locals are a good plane to use but at low level you don't have the plane space to afford planes dropping out of the sky. Use locals and stay close to the battle line providing air support when needed until you can get tier 2 fighters which generally can be used to scout and if managed well can fight other planes.

Point #4:
Completely wrong in terms of what a cv is ment to do, again referring to my comments on your first point it is up to the player how they use their cv. I would highly recommend a cv scout for their team to ensure the BBs can see their target. Remember you are not forced to scout it is your choice.

Point #5:
Doesn't this point just make everything else you have just said irrelevant???

--- My argument is in the context of team play, where in GB1, the BBs are the primary determinant in winning or losing.  Providing support means intercepting enemy scouts, bombers and fighters, providing air superiority, bombing enemy ships where capable and effective, and providing sight when requested or not.  Those are support functions.

Point #3:

--I haven't found a T1 fighter plane capable of shooting anything down except low level scouts.  They're essentially useless.

Don't burn through all your locals too early. Keep 1 or 2 for your own defense, I also don't load up more than 1 or 2 per pilot to avoid losses.  Locals can still take down bmbrs and T4s.  Also, the auto-return on low fuel is an option you should consider when using locals.

But... When launching a squadron of bombers, a good Local ftr ahead is a good idea.  It can intercept a fighter that would otherwise find your bombers or light up your target long enough for your bombers to find their targets.

--I prefer to win my GB games. It seems to provide more EXP than when I lose.

--BINGO!

While you are at it, choose a nation:

Here are just some general NF knowledge:

If you want good fighter with torpedo bomber as support: choose USN

If you want good fighter with dive bomber as support: choose KM

If you want to use mainly dive bomber and some fighter for scouting: choose MN

If you want to use mainly torpedo bomber and some fighter for scouting: choose RM

If you want to use both types of bombers and some fighter for scouting: choose IJN

If you want to be a dive bomber whore: choose SN

If you want to be a torpedo bomber whore: choose RN

MESY

You need to make sure of "Air Supremacy", regardness of being tbw/dbw or fpw.

"Air Supremacy" is an area effect. For example, if you are in the south, you can't maintain safty of the North.

Without Air Supremacy, you cannot scout, you cannot bomb and BB need to avoid non-stopping air attack.

Lower tier fighter maintain "Air Supremacy" by draging higher tier fighter away, using fewer fighter.

dying of fighter give you money too, not just to kill. winning the game give you more exp.

****************

Staying way back at the map reduce your influence to the enemy.

If you are afraid of the enemy SS, you should consider using sonar and HH. This pain will come again in habour assault.

If you are constantly being camp by enemy fighters in great battle, you should  bring fewer db/tb in your next game. Or, you should check enemy carrier location during starting count down.

You invest a lot of time in your posts, don't you, Quenirland?

Sigh...

Just to avoid any urban myths developing from what you posted, one nation's cv can only hold and launch the same nation's planes.

You can put other nations' pilots on your cv, but the only thing they'll get is exp. They aren't useful in any other way.

Thanks for that info...I had 0 Information (Good or Bad) concerning Airplane-CV Nationality.

I only knew about Sailors-Ships Nationality.

yea...My Guide Posting is probably my longest NF Forum Posting.

Generally use

for multiple Avatar Forum Responses; but, because, I changed the order of the Guide Rules/Points...I chose to rewrite everything by hand; before, I accutaly made the Posting.

That was an All-Day Project  for me. I write slow and I type slow (23 WPM or 32WPM -- my only Timed Records that date back to 1984/1985.)

I am thinking about reorganizing my Guide Posting; and, cut out the excess text.
