If you do not want to buy elites, then use +12 in the stat of the pilot. For your seaman, you want one that is decent everywhere or excellent in your chosen area. Such as if your a FW you want your seaman to be +12 or +13 in Fighter stat. If you are balance you want 11 or better in Fighter and Bombing. Aircraft stat does not matter anymore.
Pointless numbers.
The number of pilots you want is based on how you want to play CV.
1. Always have pilots in pairs. Never have a single of one kind. Have at least 2.
2. Be effective at what you are doing.
If you want to just use fighters then 8 FPs are for you. If you want your FPs to be the best they can, add seamen.
If you want to AA (planes should never get near you or you doing something wrong hence AA is pointless.
If you want to be able to bomb as well but mostly fighter, 6 FP/ 2 bombers are for you. Remember pairs, don't be the guy with 1 DB and 1 TB with like 40 Fighters, 20 TBs and 10 DBs loaded or such.
If you want to do a constant mix, 4 / 4
If you want mostly bombers but fighters for defence: 2/6
Or straight bomber whore: all 8
Bombers can also be mixed TB and DB but I suggest pairs of bombers. I'd hate to be the guy loading 11 or 12 planes on 1 bomber lol.
Go on the test server and try DBing and TB. Always use manual TBing btw, auto is so easy to dodge its laughable.
Also see if you can find someone willing to teach you manual DBing, you might like that as well.
Last if you plan on going to CV6 make sure you have a BB crew @ 115 to use as replacement sailors as you others level because you won't be using seamen or supports on your CVs til CV3 and unless you go back and level them on a PBB or something they will fall a few levels behind the rest of your CV crew.
