The red medal indicates the "boost" or in SDE language, the "premium sailor". Applying that medal to any sailor boosts all of his attributes by 20%. You can actually have hero or elite sailors with two medals: the blue one for hero/elite, plus the red one for the boost.

There are two ways of obtaining those boosts ("red medals"):

1) they can be bought in the item store for 50 olives

2) you gain them during events

You can find them in your ingame shipyard. Go to the red "Item" tab (top right), then to "Sailor Item" and there to "Premium Sailors".

I know everyone is thinking it so I'll say it.  It was not worth adding premium/boost to that sailor.  There is nothing about it that justifies it.  99.9% of players would have thrown that sailor out.  Once again, no way you should even be writing anything called a "guide" when you haven't figured out even the medals....  I hope some of this is getting through to you.

I boosted some of my Default Sailors recently...17 POTENTIAL...13 Other Attributes.

A good commander doesnt blame his sailors.

Quenirland, I see you still believe the Potential attribute has any influence any sailor that is not a BO, planesman, sonarman, airlift, or marine.

I think some very experienced players are giving some good advice....perhaps you need to follow up asking why this is a dud ss BO ...sub crews are hard to get absolutely right specially the first ones....unless you really want to do subs Id concentrate on BB crews (SPIT..CURSE) with good supports
